The CO+I Critical Environment Systems Intelligence (CESI) team is responsible for designing and delivering solutions to support global datacenter operations and to improve availability. CESI is helping to drive CO+I’s transition to a customer centric, data driven, live service culture. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer Manager, you will be a key player in this transition.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager on the CO+I Critical Environment Service Intelligence (CESI) team, you will be responsible for managing a team of engineers and onboarding as well as driving the modernization of mechanical and electrical hierarchy for existing and new datacenters. You will partner with CO+I teams to build off and leverage each other to ensure that we are driving continuous improvements across the fleet to streamline and automate the collection of data and the visualization of mechanical and electrical systems hierarchy.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and grow the engineers and contributors working on hierarchy initiatives.

  • Set clear expectations, ownership boundaries, and success metrics for the Hierarchy Team.

  • Foster a culture of proactive design, automation-first thinking, and outcome-driven execution for the hierarchy system

  • Own the Mechanical and Electrical Hierarchy vision, roadmap, and execution, ensuring alignment with business outcomes, site operations, and long-term platform scalability.

  • Drive the standardization of hierarchy models across assets, systems, and telemetry sources to enable consistent onboarding and operational insights.

  • Serve as the single-threaded owner for hierarchy quality, correctness, and lifecycle management.

  • Manage the strategy and implementation of 0-touch onboarding for Mechanical and Electrical hierarchy data across new build and legacy sites.

  • Define and enforce automation-first onboarding principles, minimizing manual data entry and eliminating rework.

  • Partner with data, tooling, and platform teams to enable automated ingestion, validation, and publishing of hierarchy data.

  • Define requirements and success criteria for hierarchy-related tooling, including authoring, validation, visualization, and health monitoring.

  • Act as a trusted technical authority for complex hierarchy-related questions and escalations.

  • Establish and enforce hierarchy governance processes, including change management, validation rules, and exception handling.

  • Define quality metrics (e.g., completeness, accuracy, automation coverage) and drive continuous improvement toward measurable targets.

  • Lead root-cause analysis for hierarchy defects and systemic onboarding failures.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or related field OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience in Data Center OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related technical engineering experience in Data Center OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience in Data Center OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience in Data Center.

  • 1+ year(s) people management experience.

  • Demonstrated experience producing executable and measurable results; focused on delivering impact and identifying, managing, and mitigating risks.

  • Demonstrated technical problem solving and excellent analytical, verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills with attention to detail.

  • 3+ years of Managerial Experience

  • Ability to communicate with a broad range of audiences with varying technical abilities and to use data as a story-telling device.

  • Ability to effectively deal with ambiguity and work independently to derive actionable solutions.

  • Ability to successfully influence without authority and manage efforts through relationships.

  • Ability to promote a collaborative environment and bring a positive attitude to difficult situations.



Mechanical Engineering M4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
