Overview

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a CO+I Critical Environment Program Manager, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. As a Critical Environment Program Manager you will manage the Drill Program across Quincy–Wenatchee Metro campuses, ensuring operational excellence / compliance with global standards. You will also oversee the Operational Excellence Program and Site Assessments Program, driving continuous improvement and adherence to Microsoft’s data center standards.

Responsibilities

Drill Program Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and facilitate the Drill Program across assigned campuses, ensuring alignment with the applicable standards.
  • Provide templates for lessons learned and actionable items for teams following drills.

Operational Excellence Program

  • Develop, implement, and facilitate CE Operational Excellence space assessments.
  • Conduct monthly audits of CE spaces.
  • Provide template scorecards and actionable items for teams following assessments.

Site Assessments Program

  • Develop, implement, and facilitate the CE Procedure Audit Program, referencing
  • Schedule and conduct Datacenter Operational Standards Self-Assessments and Site Operational Assessments in accordance with DCC library guidelines.

Meeting Facilitation and Coordination

  • Facilitate and coordinate CE Monthly Business Review (MBR) and Townhall events.
  • Prepare after-action summaries with leadership following MBR and Townhall.
  • Lead kickoff meetings during the first full week of each new month and after Townhall events.
  • Adjust meeting cadence and frequency based on team progress.

Communication and Reporting

  • Publish the CE movers and shakers monthly newsletter.
  • Own regular status updates to team and stakeholders, including reporting cadence and distribution of compliance dashboards.

Additional Responsibilities:

    • Drive operational excellence through identification and execution of opportunity areas that create efficiency, remove obstacles, or improve processes.
    • Partner with cross-functional teams to prioritize focus areas and facilitate value stream mapping exercises to identify and document opportunities for improvement.
    • Manage multiple stakeholders to balance key priorities for the business.
    • Evaluate and improve delivery practices, including process standardization and workflow optimization

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • High School Qualification or equivalent AND 2+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology or delivering server and network deployment projects in large-scale environments
    • OR equivalent experience

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Technical College Degree in Computer Science, Math, Telecommunications, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management or related field AND 5+ years experience in critical environment infrastructures (e.g., UPS, Generator, AHU), or working in physical IT infrastructures (e.g., Servers, SANs, Networking, Capacity, DC Rack/Enclosures, structured cabling)
    • OR High School Qualification or equivalent AND 7+ years experience in critical environment infrastructures (e.g., UPS, Generator, AHU), or working in physical IT infrastructures (e.g., Servers, SANs, Networking, Capacity, DC Rack/Enclosures, structured cabling)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6 months + of experience working with the operation of building cooling, electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems
  • 6 months + of experience with Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), Branch Circuit Monitoring (BCM), and Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • 2+ years of experience with project management or relevant certification/training in project management
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in applicable engineering field or mechanical or electrical trades
  • 2+ years experience working on large scale projects.
  • Familiarity with typical industry standards for incident drills, operational excellence, and procedure audits.
  • Demonstrated safety knowledge/skills around PPE and its uses in Data Centers


Data Center Operations Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,600 - $202,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $137,500 - $225,800 per year.
