The Consumer Growth Engine (CGE) & Integrated Marketing organization is a digitally centric team focused on delighting customers with relevant, timely, personalized communications to help them grow excitement in getting more value out of Microsoft products and services.

The Senior Data Engineer – Digital Marketing & Analytics is responsible for implementing and operating Consumer Data Platform (CDP) data pipelines and data layers that support analytics, activation, and AI enabled digital marketing across CGE & IM. We are hiring for two roles, one role will focus on analytics and reporting data engineering including semantic data layers in Fabric, the second role will focus on a platform activation layer to integrate our data with various marketing tools, AI agent, machine learning. This role partners closely with a Technical Architect and Data Strategist to translate defined business requirements and architecture into clear implementation specifications and reliable data solutions.

This role emphasizes delivery, execution, and operational ownership. While proficient technical capability is required, a key part of this role is to understand documented business needs, research and integrate data sources, define implementationlevel logic, and ensure data is usable, governed, productionready and aligned with the CDP strategy and architecture design.

Responsibilities

Implementation & Delivery Ownership

  • Build data pipelines and curated datasets per CDP architecture and Technical Architect guidelines.

  • Define implementation specs covering mapping, transformation, validation, and dependencies.

  • Maintain analytics- and activation-ready data layers for reporting, segmentation, personalization, and AI.

Business Requirement Interpretation

  • Collaborate with Data Strategist and analytics teams to clarify measurement and AI requirements.

  • Assess feasibility, risks, and methods using available data sources.

  • Flag and recommend solutions for data gaps, quality issues, or dependencies.

Data Source Integration

  • Integrate necessary first- and third-party data for CDP use cases.

  • Apply standard ingestion and transformation patterns according to governance standards.

  • Structure and document data for analytics and activation.

Governance, Privacy & Data Quality

  • Embed data quality checks, monitoring, and lineage in workflows.

  • Ensure pipelines comply with consent, retention, and privacy mandates.

  • Coordinate with Legal, Privacy, and Governance on new or updated data sources.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee pipeline health, including monitoring and root cause analysis.

  • Automate and standardize processes to minimize manual work.

  • Support optimization and scaling of CDP implementations.

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Operate within a shared ownership model for roadmap, architecture, and delivery.

  • Achieve clarity on data sources, integration and communicate status and risks to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Share feedback to guide future architectural decisions.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering
    • OR equivalent experience.
Additional or preferred qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience with data governance, data compliance and/or data security.
  • Experience supporting digital marketing, personalization, experimentation, or customer analytics use cases.

  • Experience working with or alongside a Customer Data Platform (CDP), Azure and Fabric Data Factories.

  • Familiarity with identity data concepts and activation workflows.

  • Experience operating within architectled or strategistled delivery models.



Data Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
