Software Engineer II, Hybrid
Microsoft
Do you enjoy building systems that operate at massive global scale and form the backbone of cloud platforms used by billions? On the Directory Runtime Stores team, you’ll work on the storage systems that power Microsoft’s directory services—handling trillions of requests every day and directly influencing the reliability, scalability, and security of Microsoft’s cloud ecosystem. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers on a team that values simplicity, operational excellence, and thoughtful design, while modernizing foundational systems that Microsoft depends on.
As a Software Engineer II, you will help design, build, and evolve the next generation of Directory Runtime Stores as we modernize our platform on technologies such as Kubernetes, EventGrid, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, and other cloud‑native services. You’ll contribute to green‑field projects, participate in architectural decisions, and help establish development and operational best practices for systems that must perform reliably at extreme scale.
This role will allow you to accelerate your technical growth, develop deep expertise in large‑scale distributed systems, and learn how foundational cloud platforms are designed, operated, and evolved over time. You’ll gain hands‑on experience building services that are critical to Microsoft’s success and that will continue to operate and evolve for decades to come.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees, we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
