The Teams Engineering Systems organization is hiring a Principal Software Engineer focused on securing large scale engineering systems and the end-to-end software supply chain. In this role, you will strengthen the integrity of our build, test, and release workflows, ensuring that every stage of the engineering lifecycle is protected against tampering, unauthorized changes, and emerging supply scale engineering systems and the ‑scale engineering systems and the end‑to‑chain threats. Responsibilities
  • Help define and implement a secure engineering system supply chain across the build, test, and release lifecycle.
  • Work with centralized teams to mitigate new security and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with feature teams and centralized security teams to improve user experience without sacrificing security.
  • Drive improvements in detection, response, and resolution times for service incidents to enhance overall reliability and customer trust.
  • Build on our Microsoft principles (create clarity, generate energy, deliver success) and values (respect, integrity, accountability) to effectively collaborate and make things happen.
  • Ship high-quality, well-tested, secure, and maintainable code.
  • Find a path to get things done despite roadblocks to get your work into the hands of users quickly and iteratively.
  • Mentor engineers and foster a culture of secure innovation, balancing rapid development with rigorous protection for customers.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience solving challenging problems and cross team/organization collaboration skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Technical leadership and influence across organizational boundaries, with the ability to communicate technical details clearly to diverse audiences, solid analytical skills and data storytelling through concise, actionable visualizations, a bias for action and customer focus, and the ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to shape product discovery by leveraging insights and metrics, developing hypotheses and success criteria, and ensuring features deliver sustainable, long-term value.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
