The Windows Endpoint Security Platform engineering team is seeking a Software Engineer IC4 to help build a next‑generation security framework that empowers an industry‑wide ecosystem of security partners. This work is central to Microsoft’s strategy to modernize endpoint security through a more resilient, extensible, and open platform that supports broad partner innovation while strengthening protection for customers.
In this role, you will design and implement a new user‑mode based architecture that enables partners to deliver robust endpoint protection solutions without relying on kernel‑mode drivers, representing a significant step forward in improving operating system (OS) reliability and reducing security risk. You will contribute to a platform that must deliver exceptional performance, reliability, and a comprehensive set of capabilities to defend against evolving enterprise threats.
This initiative is a top priority within Microsoft and has high visibility at both executive and industry levels. You will collaborate closely with teams across Windows and the broader security ecosystem, helping shape the future of endpoint protection for millions of customers worldwide. Within Core Operating System (Core OS), the team is responsible for the operating systems that power Azure, Microsoft’s Linux operating system (OS), the platforms for Windows Client and Xbox, and the Windows Server ecosystem. Through these efforts, Core OS supports all cloud businesses and billions of customers globally, with high‑quality and high‑efficiency operating systems and platform components that improve reliability, reduce cost of goods sold (COGS), and enable new features and capabilities.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Microsoft Virus Initiative (MVI) partners to develop the next generation endpoint protection platform.
- Establish long term technical strategy and direction.
- Create and improve architecture designs for complex end to end scenarios that involve multiple teams and services.
- Influence, lead, and collaborate effectively across leadership, teams, and organizations to drive outcomes.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 7+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Rust
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 7+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Rust
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to,C, C++, or Rust
- OR equivalent experience.
