As part of a multidisciplinary team of security professionals, you will help drive key security initiatives that protect both Microsoft and its customers. You will contribute to the development of AI security strategies that combine established security principles with emerging AI-specific approaches, addressing a rapidly evolving threat and regulatory landscape.

In this role, you will research, design, and help operationalize solutions that improve the security of AI products and services. You will collaborate with teams across Microsoft to address AI security challenges at scale, spanning a wide range of products and platforms. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced security engineer or technical program manager to make meaningful impact while growing expertise in AI security.

Responsibilities

• Identify recurring AI security risks and emerging best practices across a broad set of technical sources, distilling them into clear, actionable guidance for engineering and partner teams.
• Translate complex AI security concepts into practical recommendations and documentation that can be understood and adopted by teams with varying levels of AI and security expertise.
• Design and help deliver technical solutions that address emerging AI security threats and regulatory readiness needs.
• Research, design, and implement AI security controls that mitigate AI-specific risks in both existing and emerging AI systems and work with engineering teams to integrate and operationalize AI security controls into shared engineering platforms and reporting mechanisms.
• Contribute to core engineering security requirements, including the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL), ensuring they remain effective as AI technologies and development practices evolve.
• Partner with education and training teams to develop AI security content in multiple formats, such as presentations, workshops, labs, and written guidance, to help scale secure and safe AI development practices.
• Build strong working relationships with stakeholders involved in Responsible AI efforts to help align and scale AI safety and security methodologies.



Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience assessing systems for practical security risks and supporting teams in mitigating identified issues.
• 3+ years of experience in software security.
• 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team technical projects.
• Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skill

Advanced degree in computer science or a related discipline.
• Experience working with modern technology stacks, such as web services, containers, and cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Experience applying AI or machine learning technologies to security problems.
• 1+ year of experience contributing to the design or development of AI systems.

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
