Overview

The Surface Post‑Launch Engineering team is responsible for sustaining and evolving the software that powers Surface devices in the hands of millions of customers. The team works across a broad portfolio of in‑market Surface products, partnering closely with hardware, systems, and architecture teams to solve complex, real‑world challenges at the intersection of PC hardware and software. Engineers on this team contribute across the software stack—diagnosing and resolving customer‑facing issues, delivering performance‑optimized features, and continuously improving the reliability and usability of Surface experiences as products evolve over time.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in PC systems to design and deliver features that span low‑level, mid‑layer, and upper‑level software. In this role, you will apply your understanding of modern PC architecture to solve complex, cross‑stack engineering problems and produce high‑quality code optimized for high‑volume consumer products.

You will collaborate closely with electrical engineers, system engineers, architects, and fellow software engineers to drive solutions from concept through delivery, contributing to shared technical outcomes across hardware and software boundaries.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, debug, and troubleshoot firmware and low‑level software on multiprocessor systems using code debuggers and hardware diagnostic tools.
  • Hands‑on experience using hardware debugging tools such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, JTAG, flash emulators, and in‑circuit emulator during firmware or driver development process.
  • Proficiency in C language development; experience with C++ or other higher‑level languages, or host‑level application development, is a plus.
