Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) organization is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services.


This role is located in one of these hub locations: Atlanta, GA;

This Datacenter Delivery Senior MEP Field Engineer position will fulfill an on-site role at Microsoft’s Atlanta datacenter campuses supporting ongoing construction activities. This role will serve as a daily on-site presence to review progress and support quality assurance in the field of multiple concurrent datacenter builds. The position will be responsible for monitoring progress for compliance with construction documents from initial stages through commissioning and work closely with the engineering, procurement, controls and construction teams. Additionally, this role will provide project management recommendations , technical review, assist in decision-making process and overall leadership in support of the build vendors on behalf of construction throughout the construction lifecycle up to and including the turnover to Microsoft Datacenter Operations. As such they will support multi-discipline coordination, issue identification and resolution, continuous improvement efforts, and the ongoing documentation of project learnings for incorporation into future designs.

“This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA

Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must ​relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

This role is not eligible for hybrid or remote work.



Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site in the field mechanical/ electrical/ plumbing Project Engineer throughout construction of a multi-year datacenter campus development.

  • Perform regular site walks to observe progress, review construction vs design intent, and flag potential concerns for construction and quality reviews.

  • Close working relationship with all MSFT site personnel – attending construction-based quality and assurance meetings, attend schedule and milestone review sessions, attend owner-architect- contractor meetings, provide support to the Quality Assurance team in identifying potential issues.

  • Review construction drawings, specifications, design guides/standards, sequences of operation, and commissioning documents for technical compliance.

  • Expectation is the position will be in the field at least 50 percent of the time.

  • Facilitate timely response and enable seamless project execution.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related experience OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 7+ years related technical engineering or building engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management or Architecture or related field AND 4+ years related technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management or Architecture , or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience

  • OR Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management or Architecture

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in reviewing construction drawings, project specifications

  • Experience in construction of buildings with a focus on MEP systems.

  • Ability to perform in depth in field construction reviews and identify missing, deficient, and or non-complete work related to MEP systems.

  • Knowledgeable in construction techniques, scheduling, production review with the ability to interpret construction drawings and requirement documents.

Construction Project Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $96,500 - $188,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $123,500 - $206,400 per year.
