Microsoft Consumer Marketing is seeking a self-motivated, forward-thinking Creative Director to lead cross-functional creative direction for Copilot. This role requires a strategic and hands-on leader with deep expertise across multiple visual and narrative disciplines—someone who can both craft and lead, depending on what the work and the moment require. The Creative Director will be responsible for shaping and evolving Copilot’s next generation of consumer storytelling and digital experiences, grounded in strategic insight and clarity. Reporting into senior marketing leadership, this individual will operate at the center of a highly matrixed organization, partnering across Integrated Marketing, Product Marketing, Engineering, and Agencies to deliver cohesive, high-impact creative work.
This leader must be equally comfortable working independently and within a team, thriving in ambiguous environments with minimal supervision. They will collaborate directly with subject matter experts across the company to solve challenges and present confidently to senior leaders—knowing what to include, what to leave out, and how to shape a narrative that drives momentum. This role supports Copilot Consumer across major launch moments and ongoing marketing rhythms, spanning owned and operated channels (web, social, retail), paid media, product storytelling, demos, partnerships, and executive communications. The ideal candidate is an exceptional storyteller and systems thinker who can scale from foundational creative vision through execution and governance. They will bring innovative ideas that cut through the clutter while ensuring a unified and future-forward Copilot voice across all touchpoints.
Responsibilities
- Define and lead the foundational creative direction for Copilot across integrated, multi-channel marketing efforts including launches, campaigns, demos, executive storytelling, and ongoing GTM communications.
- Serve as cross-functional creative lead, partnering across Integrated Marketing, Advertising, Product Marketing, and Engineering teams to solve complex business and narrative challenges.
- Craft and oversee strategic storytelling rooted in audience insight, cultural context, and product truth.
- Present creative frameworks and work confidently to executive stakeholders, shaping narratives with precision and clarity.
- Lead and influence across disciplines including visual storytelling, art direction, UX, graphic design, illustration, typography, motion, 3D, photography, and presentation design.
- Guide internal teams and external agencies in delivering strategically sound, digital-first creative work that supports the full marketing funnel.
- Incorporate AI tools thoughtfully into the creative workflow to accelerate innovation and improve quality and speed.
- Ensure creative excellence across ambiguous, fast-moving workstreams while maintaining strong judgment and high standards.
- Model inclusive leadership and foster an environment where diverse perspectives elevate the work.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design
- OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience leading breakthrough creative for high-profile brands from both strategic and executional perspectives.
- Demonstrated expertise across multiple visual disciplines including art direction, video, film, digital design, UX, motion, and storytelling.
- Proven ability to operate independently and lead within highly ambiguous, cross-functional environments.
- Experience collaborating directly with senior executives and presenting complex ideas with clarity and impact.
- Strong portfolio showcasing integrated campaigns, digital experiences, and strategic storytelling.
- Hands-on experience with creative tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft products) and AI-enabled workflows.
- Experience working in both agency and in-house environments.
- Strong systems thinker with the ability to unify brand voice across diverse channels and touchpoints.
- Demonstrated excellence in narrative development, pacing, visual judgment, and multi-disciplinary craft.
- Exceptional collaboration and influence skills across organizational boundaries.
- Ability to manage multiple executive-level workstreams concurrently.
- Growth mindset with strong intellectual curiosity and sound judgment under pressure.
- Familiarity with Microsoft consumer products and Copilot ecosystem preferred.
Product Design IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
