Overview

We are hiring a Chief of Staff to the CVP of MAI Content Engineering at Microsoft — the ~500-person engineering organization building the content-driven, personalized experiences that make Copilot retentive and habit-forming. The org spans the U.S., Canada, China, and other international locations across the Copilot Discover product across surfaces .

The Chief of Staff is the operating backbone of this organization: a strategic operator at the intersection of engineering, product, and partner teams who ensures the org runs with clarity, speed, and execution discipline at scale. This is not a traditional program management role — it is a high-trust, high-leverage partnership with the CVP.

Success in this role means:

  • The organization runs with a clean, efficient operating cadence that people trust and rely on
  • Execution is visible, coordinated, and predictable across 500 people and multiple geographies
  • Leadership time is spent on decisions and direction, not coordination
  • The CVP has a trusted partner who extends their reach and ensures nothing falls through the cracks

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

Responsibilities
  • Operating Cadence: Rhythm of Business - Own the operating cadence end-to-end — setting the execution tone for a 500-person engineering organization:
    • Design and run staff meetings, execution reviews, metrics reviews, deep dives, and planning forums
    • Ensure every forum is decision-oriented, supported by strong pre-reads and clear agendas
    • Track decisions and follow-ups to ensure closure and accountability
    • Evolve the cadence as the org’s needs change — the RoB is a living system, not a fixed calendar
  • Cross-Team Execution and Dependency Management-Maintain a clear picture of execution across a complex, multi-geography organization:
    • Track major workstreams across the Copilot Discover product across surfaces
    • Map and monitor cross-org dependencies with Copilot, Bing, Edge, and Windows organizations
    • Surface risks and delivery gaps early — before they become escalations
    • Coordinate across geographies to maintain execution coherence despite time zone and cultural complexity
    • Triage escalations and incidents — exercise judgment on when to intervene, when to escalate, and when to let teams execute
  • Deep Dive and Review Preparation-Elevate the quality of how the organization thinks and communicates:
    • Own engineering review coordination — manage the review calendar, coordinate signups, and ensure presenting teams are well-prepared before they enter the room
    • Enforce clarity on problem statements, tradeoffs, and recommendations — no ambiguity in the room
    • Maintain templates and standards for review materials across the org
    • Be the quality bar — if material isn’t decision-ready, send it back
  • Executive Synthesis and Communication-Translate complexity into clarity for leadership:
    • Synthesize discussions into clear summaries, decisions, and next steps — in writing, not just verbally
    • Prepare executive updates for CVP-level and above audiences
    • Connect signals across meetings into a coherent view of progress, risks, and opportunities
  • Office Effectiveness-Make the CVP’s office a force multiplier:
    • Act as a trusted proxy — represent the CVP’s perspective accurately in forums where they can’t be present
    • Manage organizational budgets — headcount planning, budget tracking, vendor spend, purchasing, and resource allocation
    • Own business and financial acumen for the org — understand how engineering output connects to business outcomes; bring financial rigor to planning and investment decisions
    • Foster org health and culture — champion an inclusive, high-performing culture; drive offsites, team events, and org-wide moments that build connection across geographies
    • Own partner and stakeholder management — maintain strong operating relationships with peer orgs and key stakeholders
