Overview

Reimagine how millions of users find and interact with their content every day.

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead innovation in the search experience across OneDrive and SharePoint. This role will focus on improving relevance, personalization, and performance of the search box experience — enabling users to efficiently discover the most important content across Microsoft 365.

You will apply AI-native development practices and data-driven approaches to continuously improve both product experiences and engineering effectiveness.

As a senior technical leader, you will lead technical execution, collaborate across teams to align on architecture and delivery, and mentor engineers while raising the bar on system design, reliability, and engineering excellence.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

  • Contribute to engineering excellence by driving standards in security, privacy, compliance, and automated development and deployment practices
  • Lead experimentation and continuous improvement through telemetry, metrics, and A/B testing to inform product and system decisions
  • Own live-site reliability and operational excellence, including monitoring, incident response, and long-term service health improvements
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to a strong engineering culture through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance
