We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Microsoft Copilot Experiences team, focused on building highly reliable, performant, and intelligent user experiences for Copilot.
This role sits at the intersection of frontend systems, distributed services, and telemetry-driven product innovation, where you will play a key role in shaping how millions of users interact with AI-powered experiences.
You’ll partner closely with engineering, data, and product teams to design systems that not only deliver great user experiences but also enable deep insights through scalable analytics and telemetry.

Responsibilities
Product & Engineering
- Design and build high-performance, resilient web experiences for Microsoft Copilot.
- Own end-to-end delivery across client, service, and data layers.
- Improve reliability, latency, and responsiveness of Copilot interactions (e.g., time-to-first-token, rendering, streaming UX).
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to translate user needs into scalable solutions.
Telemetry & Analytics (Differentiator)
- Build and evolve telemetry pipelines and instrumentation to measure user engagement and satisfaction.
- Design session-level event models to better understand user journeys and intent.
- Partner with data/analytics teams to derive insights that directly influence product direction.
System Design
- Architect systems for large-scale, low-latency experiences.
- Work on data ingestion pipelines (e.g., event pipelines, logging systems, analytics backends).
- Ensure systems meet privacy, compliance, and security standards.
Technical Leadership
- Lead design reviews and influence architecture across components.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to a high-performing engineering culture.
- Drive engineering excellence in areas such as observability, debugging, and experimentation.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience building web applications or distributed systems at scale.
- Solid understanding of system design, APIs, and performance optimization.
- Experience with telemetry, logging, or data-driven product development.
- Experience building and operating AI/agent-based systems in production, including orchestration, observability, evaluation, and handling of failure modes.
- Solid problem-solving skills and ability to operate in ambiguous spaces.
- Experience working on AI/ML-powered products or conversational interfaces.
- Familiarity with event pipelines, analytics platforms, or data systems (e.g., Kusto, ClickHouse, streaming pipelines).
- Experience improving user experience through experimentation and instrumentation.
- Background in reliability engineering or performance optimization.
- Track record of influencing product direction through data insights.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
