Overview

Our love for innovation, technology and doing meaningful work is at the heart of everything we do at Microsoft. It is a shared passion that inspires our team, our partners and customers to think bigger.

Organisations across the New Zealand government sector are now more than ever, under increasing pressure to modernise critical systems, strengthen cyber resilience, protect sensitive information, and enable secure collaboration across agencies and jurisdictions. They are seeking to use cloud, data and artificial intelligence to improve engagement with citizens, accelerate decision-making, enhance operational readiness, and support frontline personnel in complex and rapidly evolving environments.

As the Account Technology Strategist, you are a key member of the government account team and you help customers across the sector shape strategies to address these opportunities and challenges by leveraging Microsoft’s technologies, resources and ecosystem. You will work with a virtual team of specialists focused on government, security, data and AI, alongside Microsoft partners and independent software vendors.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting mission-critical government organisations and thrives working with senior business leaders, operational stakeholders and technical teams alike, while applying strong industry, business and technical acumen. As a Microsoft team member your daily actions will contribute to our inclusive culture. Through this welcoming environment, you will enable your extended technical team to bring their most innovative solutions to client challenges.

Responsibilities

The purpose of the Account Technology Strategist is to support the digital transformation of customers across New Zealand’s Defence & Intelligence, Public Safety and Justice sector through the adoption of Microsoft technologies. In partnership with the Account Executive, you will set the strategy to advance each customer’s mission and innovation agenda, ideate with them, and inspire them around what technology can enable in secure, highly regulated and operationally demanding environments.

You will have the opportunity to own and strengthen executive customer relationships, act as a thought leader, create long-term strategies linking customer outcomes, policy and regulatory obligations, technology priorities and sector needs, and orchestrate teams of technical specialists across Microsoft and our partner network to provide the right solutions to your customers.

You will help define the customer’s technology roadmap and create an execution plan to deliver on priority initiatives such as secure cloud adoption, cyber resilience, data platform modernisation, AI-enabled decision support and workforce productivity, while growing the Microsoft solutions adopted in their environment.

Qualifications

There will be many opportunities for you to learn and grow into this role and Microsoft. However, to best deliver on the purpose of this role, these are the core skills and experiences you should have on day one:

  • Experience working with customers to drive digital transformation in a technical consulting or technical sales role. It would be valuable if this includes experience with Defence, Intelligence, Public Safety, Justice or broader government organisations, but this is not essential.

  • An understanding of how to build a technology strategy and roadmap, gain executive sponsorship, and orchestrate a multidisciplinary team to execute against that plan in complex, highly regulated environments.

  • Passion for and knowledge of a range of technical solutions such as artificial intelligence, cyber security, cloud platforms, data and analytics, business applications and productivity tools, with an appreciation for security, compliance and information protection requirements.

Microsoft believes that by investing in our people and creating an inclusive environment, our team will do their best work. We offer a wide range of supportive benefits such as coaching and mentoring programs and up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave. We encourage you to ask about our flexible working options and how we can support your career.

This role supports New Zealand Government customers in the Defence, Intelligence, and Public Safety & Justice sector and may require eligibility to obtain a New Zealand Government security clearance.

As a result, candidates must meet applicable clearance requirements, which may include New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency. Employment is contingent upon verification of eligibility and obtaining and maintaining the required clearance.

This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
