Within Azure Data, the Microsoft Fabric platform team builds and maintains the operating system and provides customers a unified data stack to run an entire data estate. The platform provides a unified experience, unified governance, enables a unified business model and a unified architecture.

The Fabric Core Platform team within Microsoft Fabric is hiring a Software Engineer II to build and scale the foundational infrastructure that powers Microsoft's unified data platform. Our team owns the backend compute platform (MWC), capacity management, routing, deployment, and workload lifecycle — the operating system layer that all Fabric workloads depend on. This is a high-impact role where you will work on distributed systems at massive scale serving millions of customers worldwide.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain backend platform services built on Azure Service Fabric serving enterprise-scale workloads
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-performance distributed systems for capacity management and workload orchestration
- Contribute to deployment infrastructure using Ev2, ARM templates, and CI/CD pipelines for safe and efficient rollouts across global Azure regions
- Investigate and resolve complex production issues using telemetry, Kusto queries, and structured debugging methodologies
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and on-call rotations to ensure platform reliability and quality
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, test coverage, and operational excellence

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience

Job Requirements: Other & Additional

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
- Experience with distributed systems, cloud services (Azure), or platform infrastructure
- Familiarity with Service Fabric, microservices architecture, or container orchestration
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment automation
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience with production debugging and telemetry analysis
