Operations Specialist

The role involves managing trade lifecycle of daily trading activities of all portfolio managers trading Equity and Fixed Income products across APAC region, as well as leading projects and initiatives and providing control framework and supervision within the Asia Core Operations team.

Candidate will be required to review and analyze on ongoing basis the workflows and procedures across all product types, to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of the organization, as well as controls. Candidate should be able to work in a fast-paced environment and one that is continually changing. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong analytical and organizational skills.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Perform daily T+1 trade, position & cash reconciliations across multi-asset classes across all APAC markets, working with prime brokers and external counterparties to resolve exceptions and discrepancies
  • Manage Corporate Actions / Asset Servicing and Equities Syndicate deal processing procedures, ensuring accurate processing of all mandatory and voluntary corporate action events, as well as inventory controls and tax processing
  • Analyze processes to enhance operational efficiency & controls, and participate in ad-hoc projects; work with internal stakeholders including global Ops/IT and wider Core Infrastructure teams to implement new systems and workflow, with particular focus around Corporate Action processes
  • Products coverage: Equities, Bonds, Convertible Bonds, Equity Swaps as primary. May also be expected to cover Futures, Options, FX, Commodities and other OTC Derivatives
  • Establish good working relationship with Portfolio Managers and wider Operations & Middle Office organization. Be the primary point of contact for Asia-based Portfolio Managers on operational queries as well as broader issues which may require escalation to Management
  • Run ongoing analytics to identify trends and gaps, devise formal governance over recurring issues and provide necessary analysis and evaluation for Ops Management
  • Liaise with brokers, external counterparties and vendors on ongoing basis to resolve issues and improve procedures

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Min 8-12 years of relevant experience. Strong knowledge in APAC markets a must, particularly in Equities and Convertible Bonds
  • Relevant experience in Corporate Actions / Asset Servicing preferred
  • Detail-oriented; demonstrable thoroughness and strong ownership of work
  • Ability to drive and lead process change; able to prioritize in a fast moving, high pressure, constantly changing environment
  • Quick learner, highly analytical and strategic thinker; understands financial products and has the ability to grasp new concepts around products and processes quickly
  • Self-starter, solid organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with wider teams internally as well as with external counterparties and providers
  • Knowledge in SQL, Macros/VBA or relevant coding languages to perform analytics and build tactical solutions preferred
