Moelis & Company is seeking an Associate to join its Public Relations team in New York. This role will support the firm's media relations and communications management efforts, reporting to the Public Relations Vice President. This role will serve as an early point of contact for inbound media inquiries, help prepare briefing materials and talking points, support proactive media pitching, and assist with conference and speaking engagement coordination. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented communications professional to build deep experience in financial and corporate public relations within a fast-paced, high-visibility environment at a leading global investment bank.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Support for Inbound Media Inquiries
Serve as a first point of contact for inbound media inquiries, escalating as needed and ensuring timely and accurate responses.
Help coordinate for incoming press requests, working with bankers to align messaging.
Maintain and update talking points for interviews, ensuring they are relevant to subject at hand.
Coordinate with bankers on deal-related media opportunities, assisting with logistics and preparation.
2. Preparation of PR Materials
Prepare PR materials, briefing documents and talking points, ensuring alignment with the overall PR strategy
Maintain media lists, ensuring they are current and tailored to organizational priorities.
Draft press releases for new hires and other key communications.
Help prepare bankers in advance of media engagements
Assist with PR and reporter tracking and databases.
3. Cross-Coverage on Media Pitching and Day-to-Day Operations
Support proactive media pitching, including drafting and refining pitches to support strategic goals
Support competitive intelligence strategy & research as needed.
Assist with review and drafting of morning press clips, social media posts, and coverage tracking, as backup support for PR team members.
Coordinate media interviews and press briefings, ensuring seamless execution and follow-up.
Support day-to-day coordination with PR agencies, helping ensure timely and efficient execution of deliverables.
4. Conference and Speaking Engagement Support
Support conferences from a PR perspective, assisting the team with conducting research and coordinating logistics
Vet speaking engagement and conference attendance opportunities, assessing fit with key messaging and PR priorities.
Review inbound inquiries and invitations for bankers to speak at or attend conferences, researching the event, audience, and media presence to inform recommendations.
Coordinate with bankers and senior PR team members to prepare for confirmed conference appearances and speaking engagements.
Key Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in media relations, either at an agency or in-house; experience in banking, financial services, or investment banking is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, economics, or a related discipline.
Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, ensuring deadlines are met in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear, concise messaging for media and stakeholders.
Detail-oriented, with strong attention to accuracy and alignment with key messaging and branding.
A self-starter who thrives in a team-oriented environment and is eager to learn and grow.
Comfortable supporting inbound media inquiries, preparing press materials, coordinating interviews, and providing timely follow-ups.
Expected Salary Range USD: $100,000 - $110,000
