Institutional Securities Technology (IST) develops and oversees the overall technology strategy and bespoke technology solutions to drive and enable the institutional businesses and enterprise-wide functions. IST’s ‘clients’ include Fixed Income, Equities, Commodities, Investment Banking, Research, Prime Brokerage and Global Capital Markets.

Institutional Equity Division
Morgan Stanley's Institutional Equity Division is a world leader in the origination, distribution and trading of equity, equity-linked and equity-derivative securities. This role is with the Equity Risk Systems group within ESTAR. The Equity Risk Systems (ERS) group is responsible for the Morgan Stanley's proprietary risk and pricing platform (RiskViewer), which is used globally by traders and risk managers in the institutional equities division. RiskViewer aids trading decisions and risk management by near real-time calculation of value and risk measures of firm's trading positions. We support the full range of equity products from vanilla options through to exotics and swaps as well as a variety of non-equity instruments such as FX, rates and credit derivatives.

Job Profile

The system is based on a distributed architecture of multi-threaded server-side components and a large compute farm for calculation of risk and pricing data. The platform also provides valuation services to a variety of trading engines, quoting/market making systems and pricing tools used by trading and sales. The software is developed by teams based in New York, Montreal, London, Budapest, Bengaluru, and Hong Kong

This is a Java position at the associate level, focusing on our market data infrastructure and services. The candidate should have significant experience in building complex distributed systems.
Key responsibilities for this role:
- Build high quality technology solutions involving architecture, design, estimation, planning and software development
- Rearchitect core components with high availability, resiliency and scalability demands
- Liaise with demanding stakeholders to understand complex requirements
- Prioritize work under pressure with minimal supervision in a highly dynamic environment
- Foster inclusivity and a positive working environment in the team.

Skill Set

Required Skills:
- Deep experience with Java with a focus on enterprise Java
- Experience with Unix/Linux
- Exposure to agile development practices including TDD, continuous integration and SCRUM.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with Python and scripting
- Knowledge of financial products.

• Bachelor’s Degree
• 4-8 years of relevant experience
