Position Description
Within Morgan Stanley, Credit Risk Management (CRM) evaluates credit risk transactions and approves, rejects or modifies them considering the availability and appropriateness of arrangements for reducing risk or risk mitigation. The department also assigns Internal Credit Ratings; establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board; monitors and reports on credit risk exposures on a regular basis to the Chief Risk Officer and senior management. CRM also interacts with business units to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions.
We are currently looking for an experienced and driven Financial Institutions (FI) and/or Corporate credit risk professional with expertise in counterparty credit risk and/or lending to join our Asia Credit Risk team based in Seoul, Korea, with these core responsibilities:
- Perform all necessary credit due diligence and analysis on Korean (and more broadly Asia) FI/ Corporate counterparties that may range from banks, securities firms, insurance companies, corporates, clearing houses, sovereign and sovereign related entities
- Prepare loan and annual review memos for active/potential counterparties
- Review, approve (within delegated authority) or recommend for approval credit risk-related limits and transactions
- Negotiate credit documentation relating to lending and derivatives to ensure strong credit term protection
- Work closely with different business units in identifying and developing transaction structures and credit risk mitigation solutions
- Monitor portfolio quality on an ongoing basis and recommend rating actions / asset classifications
- Conduct industry and sovereign research
- Perform legal entity risk management responsibilities compliant with relevant regulatory requirements.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Mathematics, Economics or related. MBA or CFA candidates highly preferred
- At least 8 years of credit risk experience covering Asia-Pacific FIs/ Corps in a leading global financial institution
- Sound credit research skills
- Experience with loan and/or derivative documents. Familiarity with derivative products will be an advantage
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English and Korean required
- Strong relationship building skills with the ability to independently handle internal business units and external clients on credit-related issues
