Profile Description

We’re seeking someone to join our Enterprise Technology team as a Security Operations Manager, in Enterprise Z (EZ) Security team. The Enterprise Z Security team is responsible for engineering and operating IBM Z mainframe authentication and authorization services. This position will lead the Security Operations function, overseeing day to day delivery of enterprise mainframe security services while ensuring the stability and reliability of Enterprise Z security tooling and products used across the Firm.

The Security Operations Manager (Enterprise Z) will lead a team of specialists responsible for daily mainframe security operations, troubleshooting, governance, and service stability. The ideal candidate brings hands on expertise with External Security Managers (preferably RACF) and proven experience managing high performing technical teams. This role requires close collaboration with infrastructure partners-including Systems Programming, CICS/MQ, Db2, and application support teams-along with periodic on call responsibilities to triage and resolve security incidents.

What you’ll do in the role:

Engineering & Operations

  • Oversee day to day operations of Enterprise Z security services, ensuring stability and adherence to Firm security policies.
  • Provide engineering and operational support for mainframe security products, including IBM RACF and Broadcom TopSecret.
  • Design and support mainframe initiatives related to authentication, authorization, encryption, certificate services, PassTickets, MFA, and entitlement provisioning.
  • Coordinate implementation, validation, and post deployment checks for OS/software upgrades and patches.
  • Evaluate new features in security products and lead integration efforts to improve service capabilities.
  • Manage vendor escalations, troubleshoot complex issues, and drive timely resolution of incidents.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for security escalations and after-hours maintenance, as required.

Leadership & Governance

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of security engineers; establish operational best practices and performance standards.
  • Partner with Enterprise Z Security groups to implement strategic initiatives and ensure consistent security posture.
  • Contribute to risk reduction efforts by identifying gaps, improving monitoring, and enhancing audit/compliance readiness.
  • Reduce operational toil through automation, standardization, and proactive issue detection.
  • Monitor compliance and configuration hygiene (ESM settings, access reviews, certificate renewals) and drive remediation as needed.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • 10+ years of mainframe experience with at least 8+ years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.
  • Hands on experience with RACF and mainframe security internals (ZSecure or equivalent).
  • Experience leading a security team responsible for daily mainframe security operations including service metrics.
  • Strong proficiency in mainframe programming and scripting (JCL, REXX, C, batch utilities).
  • Experience with distributed systems (UNIX, USS) and z/OS environments (ISPF, TSO, SDSF, JES).
  • Experience defining and managing service KPIs for security or mainframe operations (MTTR, SLA performance, backlog trends).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical teams.
  • Excellent organization, multitasking, and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools.

Desired

  • Working knowledge of relational databases (DB2, Sybase, SQL).
  • Experience with PKI/digital certificates, Kerberos, SSL, SSH, OpenSSL.
  • Systems programming exposure (SMP/E, SYS1 datasets, Assembler).
  • Understanding of mainframe networking concepts.
  • Experience with middleware technologies (MQ Series, etc.).
