The MSIM Emerging Markets Debt Team is seeking a 2027 Off-Cycle Intern in London for a 12-month internship commencing in January 2027. The intern will work directly with traders across Boston, London, and Singapore on trading-related projects, market structure analysis, data visualization, AI initiatives, and work designed to improve efficiency, transparency, and decision support across the trading platform. This is not an execution role.
Placement and Duration
The Off-Cycle Internship is an opportunity to experience the culture and atmosphere in the Investment Management Division by taking on some of the responsibilities and functions of a Full-Time Analyst for a short period.
Training Program
You will receive formal and informal training and will be expected to learn on the job through direct project work with traders and related partners across technology, operations, compliance, and portfolio management. Training will focus on the team’s investment process, trading workflows, market structure, data tools, and the practical use of analytics and automation on a global Emerging Markets Trading desk.
The internship is designed to build practical experience in trading support, data analysis, visualization, workflow improvement, and project delivery. Candidates should be interested in developing their understanding of emerging market debt, equity, and FX markets while improving their programming, analytical, and communication skills.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Support traders on trading-related projects, analytics, workflow reviews, and market structure initiatives.
- Build and maintain data visualizations and dashboards that improve transparency into markets, liquidity, execution quality, trading activity, and operational workflows.
- Conduct research on trading venues, protocols, broker capabilities, market access, local regulations, taxes, settlement processes, and other market structure topics.
- Contribute to AI and automation initiatives that help organize information, reduce manual work, improve transparency, and make recurring trading processes more scalable.
- Partner with traders, technology, compliance, operations, and other stakeholders to identify process friction and support practical improvements from investment idea to implementation.
- Monitor market developments, trading workflows, and data quality issues relevant to the Emerging Markets Debt Team.
- The intern will not execute trades or provide trade recommendations.
Qualifications/Skills/Requirements:
- You have graduated from university or able to take the time off to commit for a full-time internship role for twelve months if you are currently in study.
- Proactive, independent thinker with the judgment to question existing processes, identify practical improvements, and work collaboratively with traders and partner teams.
- Strong working knowledge of Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, or similar tools for data analysis, visualization, and workflow automation.
- Familiarity with trading systems, portfolio management systems, market data tools, or visualization platforms is a plus.
- High level of efficiency and an ability to prioritize and perform under pressure.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Quantitative aptitude and comfort manipulating large data sets, identifying patterns, checking data quality, and presenting conclusions clearly.
- Ability to be flexible with regards to work hours, adapting to market opportunities and dynamics given the team’s global footprint in Emerging Markets.
- Understanding of financial markets, fixed income, FX, derivatives, or market microstructure through coursework, internships, or independent work.
- Interest in AI tools, automation, data governance, and practical technology solutions for trading workflows is a plus.
- Fluency in English is required. Fluency in an additional language is a plus.
