The Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies of New York University invites applications for a tenured full-time senior faculty position in American Jewish History, at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor. If appointed at the rank of Full Professor, the successful candidate will be named the Paul and Sylvia Steinberg Professor of American Jewish History. The appointment will begin on September 1, 2024, pending administrative and budgetary approval. The appointee is expected to have a doctorate in a field related to American Jewish History and a significant record of scholarly publications based on original research in any aspect of American Jewish History. We welcome applicants who work in interdisciplinary, transnational, or emergent fields of study. The appointee is expected to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. It is expected that the appointee will have an affiliation with NYU’s Department of History and, if appropriate, other relevant academic units in Arts and Science.

The appointee will also serve as director of the Goldstein-Goren Center for American Jewish History. The Center organizes academic programming throughout the year in addition to supporting short-term visiting scholars and research fellow appointments. Pay Transparency Statement: 

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $160,000 at the rank of Associate Professor and $135,000 to $225,000 at the rank of Full Professor.
