The Center on Violence and Recovery (CVR) is dedicated to advancing knowledge on the causes and consequences of violence and trauma and developing solutions that foster healing among individuals, families, and communities. CVR develops cutting-edge solutions to promote healing and transformation; conducts research studies on critical issues connected to trauma and restoration; and offers trainings, workshops, and lectures on topics related to trauma and healing.
Reporting to the Co-Executive Director and Chief Research Officer and the lead Principal Investigator on an Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) award to evaluate restorative practices pilot programs to address domestic and sexual violence and working in collaboration with the research and evaluation team, CVR is seeking a Director of Operations, Research and Evaluation to lead the strategic planning, design, implementation, oversight, and management of research and evaluation activities. The role includes developing and implementing innovative research and evaluation methodologies, managing interdisciplinary efforts, ensuring high-quality data collection and analysis, and translating findings into actionable insights to inform policy and practice. The position is a key member of the CVR research team and will work closely with the Co-Executive Director and Chief Research Officer to articulate and carry out the strategic vision of CVR and to ensure that the OVW study is executed efficiently, on time, within budget, ethically, and meets its objectives. The Director of Operations, Research and Evaluation’s oversight will help with data quality, management, compliance, grant reporting, and dissemination.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Leadership and Strategy
· Collaborate with the Co-Executive Director and Chief Research Officer to develop and implement a comprehensive research and evaluation strategy aligned with CVR’s mission and goals.
· Oversee research and evaluation activities, ensuring alignment with academic and professional standards and adherence to ethical standards.
· Lead and mentor an interdisciplinary team of researchers, evaluators, consultants, research assistants, and other staff to achieve project objectives.
· Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative research culture.
Research Design and Methods:
· Design and oversee rigorous qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods studies to research and evaluate program implementation, outcomes, and effectiveness.
· Oversee data collection methods, data cleaning, and data analysis.
· Ensure the ethical conduct of research, including compliance with the Institutional Review Board requirements and data privacy regulations.
Project Management
· Direct the planning, execution, and completion of research and evaluation activities.
· Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring high-quality outputs.
· Implement data management and quality assurance protocols to maintain the integrity of research and evaluation activities.
Stakeholder Engagement
· Collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including academic institutions, research partners, community-based organizations, government agencies, and funders.
· Communicate research findings to non-academic audiences through reports, presentations, and policy briefs.
· Build and sustain relationships with external partners and collaborators to advance CVR’s research agenda.
Grant Writing and Fundraising
· Identify and pursue funding opportunities from federal agencies, foundations, and other sources to support research and evaluation activities.
· Develop grant proposals, including research design, methodology, and budgets.
· Manage relationships with funders to ensure project sustainability and compliance with funding requirements.
· Cultivate relationships with funders to secure and sustain resources for CVR’s initiatives.
Knowledge Dissemination
· Collaborative on the publication of research and evaluation findings in peer-reviewed journals, technical reports, and other scholarly outlets
· Develop accessible resources, including white papers, policy briefs, and executive summaries, to inform policy and practice.
· Provide training and capacity-building support to staff, partners, and collaborators on research and evaluation practices.
· Represent CVR at conferences, workshops, and public forums.
Qualifications
· PhD or master’s degree with extensive research and evaluation experience in social work, public administration, public health, or a related field.
· Minimum of 8 years of research administration and evaluation experience, and a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience, preferably in an academic setting but could also be in a nonprofit, government, or philanthropic setting.
· Demonstrated understanding of social science research methods, implementation science, and program evaluation.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Proven ability to manage an interdisciplinary, high-performing team for collaborative, translational, implementation-focused, and/or applied, community-engaged research.
· Ability to complete detail-oriented tasks with accuracy and timeliness and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to compose reports, presentations, and written communication in an organized, logical, and concise manner.
· Excellent communication skills, including writing, editing, and presentation to diverse audiences.
· Proficiency with statistical and qualitative analysis software.
· Familiarity with social science funding landscapes and experience with grant writing and management.
· Commitment to ethical research practices and capacity building within the team.
Additional Information: In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the compensation for this position is $120,000-140,000 USD. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
