Description
The Weiss Laboratory is seeking an outstanding individual to join the team as a Laboratory Associate. In this role, you will first learn and then train laboratory staff in experimental techniques and best scientific practices. You will ensure that laboratory personnel sign, follow, and regularly update standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to instrument operation, safety regulations, and the safe handling and disposal of chemical and biological waste.
You will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in assigning responsibilities for regular equipment and instrument maintenance and calibration, and in ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day lab operations. In addition, you will manage lab purchases and oversee lab systems (e.g., chemical inventory, tracking of notebooks, purchase requests, lab meeting schedules, etc.). You will establish and refine procedures and processes to address issues, increase efficiency, and mitigate risk.
You will also handle confidential data and ensure that all information collected in the lab is securely stored, properly archived, and readily accessible to authorized personnel. Laboratory managers facilitate effective communication among team members and the PI, where appropriate, and help implement proven personnel management strategies to improve the lab’s productivity.
Attendance at mandatory weekly group and subgroup meetings will provide opportunities for you to assist with troubleshooting and to contribute to the success of research projects through experiments you will help design and conduct. This position offers the possibility of co-authorship on publications that include your experimental results, in accordance with accepted standards for scientific co-authorship.
Laboratory managers are expected to adhere strictly to ethical guidelines, safety regulations, and institutional policies.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,656-$65,664/yr based on experience. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
