Description

The Department of Technology, Operations and Statistics at the Stern School of Business, New York University, invites applications for a highly motivated and creative Research Scientist (Postdoctoral Associate) to join our growing interdisciplinary research community. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing the emerging interface between Operations and next-generation Artificial Intelligence, with an emphasis on developing innovative data-driven frameworks for decision-making in complex and uncertain environments.

The Postdoctoral Associate will work closely with Prof. Jackie Baek and Prof. Omar Mouchtaki. The appointment will start in summer 2026 and is funded for one year.

The appointment is designed as a career-building research experience with substantial opportunities for intellectual growth, mentorship, and scholarly independence. Candidates with strong backgrounds in Operations Research, Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, or related fields are encouraged to apply.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $61,500-$102,500. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Operations Research, Economics, Computer Science, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

Other qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with demonstrated experience conducting rigorous research.
  • Evidence of creativity, intellectual independence, and the ability to contribute to interdisciplinary research.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computational or empirical methods relevant to the candidate’s research area is a plus.
