The Desplan lab is seeking to fill a part-time Assistant Research Scientist position for a project on underlying mechanisms of genes that control the development, evolution, and function of the visual system starting April 6, 2026. Responsibilities may include:
- Maintaining Drosophila stocks, ensuring accurate record-keeping, and contributing to the organization of the lab.
- Conducting experimental analyses to including brain dissection, immunostaining, and confocal microscopy.
- Image analysis for microscopy-based clonal lineage data.
- Stochastic process modeling of quantitative data obtained from image analysis.
- AI-based segmentation of microscopy data.
The candidate should have an undergraduate degree in some field of biology. A master’s degree is preferred.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act the annual base salary range for this position is $19/hr for 14 hours per week. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Qualifications
Qualifications being sought are a BS, PhD or MD/PhD student in Biology or a related field. In addition, experience in biology/medicine and statistics research. The researcher hired for the position will help Raghuvanshi Rajesh with ongoing projects related to Drosophila genetics, molecular biology, microscopy and image analysis.
