Department Overview

The Equities businesses including derivatives, electronic, program, and cash at Nomura globally use a single platform for intraday and end of day risk management known as Euclid. This platform manages the lifecycle and risk of OTC equity derivative transactions as well as risk for the firm’s positions.

Role Description

We are looking for a Senior Cloud-Native Software Engineer to join our HK Equity Risk IT team as part of our global Equity Risk IT organization (~50 developers). This role will drive the cloud-native transformation of our mission-critical front-office platform serving flow, structured, convertibles, and delta-one desks globally.

As part of our multi-year modernization initiative, you will:

  • Architect and develop cloud-native applications on AWS and Kubernetes
  • Build scalable, low-latency systems for equity derivatives pricing and risk management
  • Implement microservices, serverless, and event-driven architectures to support real-time trading workflows
  • Optimize hybrid cloud deployments (AWS and on-premises) for performance and cost efficiency

The ideal candidate combines deep cloud-native expertise with in-depth knowledge of equity derivatives, enabling delivery of an end-to-end platform covering rich user interface, proprietary compute infrastructure, trading, and pricing services. You should be hands-on, delivery-focused, with strong analytical skills and experience programming in multiple languages in a hybrid cloud environment. This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with traders and business teams in a fast-paced front-office environment, with a hybrid work arrangement combining in-office collaboration with remote flexibility.

Responsibilities

Cloud-Native Development:

  • Design and implement scalable, resilient applications on AWS and Kubernetes (EKS/Rancher)
  • Develop microservices and serverless components for real-time pricing and risk calculations
  • Optimize hybrid cloud deployments for performance, security, and cost efficiency
  • Automate CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI) for rapid, reliable deployments

Equity Derivatives Platform:

  • Build proprietary compute infrastructure (C#, Go, Kotlin) for derivatives pricing
  • Develop trading and pricing services (REST/Protobuf) with low-latency requirements
  • Collaborate on rich UI components (React/HTML5) for trader-facing applications
  • Apply equity derivatives expertise to guide technical decisions and ensure platform meets front-office requirements

Technical Leadership:

  • Work with our global development team on new functionality, enhancements, and bug fixes
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of programming patterns and distributed architectures
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to capture requirements and communicate business impact
  • Plan and manage release cycles, providing guidance to QA and Support teams
  • Assist production support with day-to-day issues

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of application development in multiple languages (C#, Go, Kotlin)
  • Hands-on experience with AWS (EKS, RDS, S3) and Kubernetes (Rancher)
  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments (AWS and on-premises)
  • Solid understanding of P&L attribution and risk measures for Flow derivatives (options, futures)
  • Structured derivatives (range accruals, barrier options, autocallables, margin loans)
  • Knowledge of trading lifecycle events (expiry, cash flows, corporate actions)
  • Experience with multi-threaded and distributed architectures
  • Experience with messaging middleware (Pulsar, Solace) and distributed caching (Redis)

Nomura Competencies

  • Explore Insights & Vision: Identify the underlying causes of problems faced by you or your team and define a clear vision and direction for the future.
  • Making Strategic Decisions: Evaluate all the options for resolving the problems and effectively prioritize actions or recommendations.
  • Inspire Entrepreneurship in People: Inspire team members through effective communication of ideas and motivate them to actively enhance productivity.
  • Elevate Organizational Capability: Engage proactively in professional development and enhance team productivity through the promotion of knowledge sharing.
  • Inclusion: Respect DEI, foster a culture of psychological safety in the workplace and cultivate a "Risk Culture" (Challenge, Escalate and Respect).
