The Systems Reliability Engineer develops the reliability requirements for both new products in development and existing product platforms; establishes reliability programs; and performs appropriate analyses and tasks to ensure that products meet all requirements. The reliability engineer will support Hussmann’s commitment to high product quality that leads the industry. This role is responsible for analyzing preliminary engineering-design concepts for new and existing product to recommend design or test methods for attaining specified product operational reliability requirements. The Reliability Engineer advises and confers with Research/Development and Manufacturing Engineering to determine/predict critical component and/or sub-assembly performance to ensure excellent reliability and extended operating life. In addition, this role develops and/or reviews critical reliability test plans/protocols to achieve system reliability and meet specific acceptance criteria. This individual analyzes failure data and proposes design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements. The reliability Engineer works across disciplines and with cross-functional teams to understand customer usage and site factors impacting reliability.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work closely with R&D and/or Mfg Engineering to determine/predict critical electro-mechanical component/sub- assembly reliability and operating life.

  • Develop/review reliability test plans/protocols, Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), to achieve system reliability and meet acceptance criteria.

  • Capable of applying Design-of-Experiments, Montecarlo analysis, simulation concepts to develop robust designs.

  • Test the reliability of critical components, sub-assemblies and products prior to production phases and implementation. Conduct reliability test such as HALT testing, Key Life Testing, Step Over Stress testing, etc.

  • Assess and determine acceleration factors (usage rate or stress factors) of critical assemblies.

  • Determine the failure rate of critical components that correlate with field failure experience.

  • Monitor and analyze failure data (Weibull analysis) and furnish reliability test reports; conduct failure investigation, root cause analysis and propose solutions.

  • Support sustaining activities as they relate to ongoing reliability planning and testing.

  • Serve as a dedicated resource to drive improvement efforts and support engineering projects.

  • Test, troubleshoot, and repair complex electromechanical equipment, fixtures, and instrument systems.

  • Participate in the development and operation of a reliability improvement program.

  • Perform complex electromechanical analysis and problem solving on a routine basis.

  • Make design recommendations to improve reliability and resolve conflicting requirements.

  • Work independently to perform technical tasks as assigned.

  • Integrate quality and reliability requirements into the PLC (Product Life Cycle) process.

  • Conduct Design reviews with product teams to ensure requirements and specification are being met throughout product development cycles.

  • Identify customer requirements, issues, and opportunities with new products under development and current product offerings as well.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • BS degree(s) in any Engineering discipline, preferred Mechanical Engineering.

  • 0+ years of product design. Ideal design experience would be in mass-produced products

  • Experience in launching new products within structured product development process

  • Excellent communication skills, oral & written. (Internal and external)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with new technologies (Additive manufacturing, Electronics, etc), preferred

  • Knowledge of Product Development Life Cycle with respect to Systems, Electrical or Software Development.

  • Knowledge and experience in Design for Robustness.

  • Good technical leadership, planning and organizational skills.

  • Experience in working with widely distributed team on a global footprint is a plus

  • Collaborative, team-oriented contributor with demonstrated ability to think outside the box to achieve goals and deliver results efficiently.

  • Willing to travel to Hussmann and Customer locations to support developing new products and systems.
