Overview

This Associate Technical Writer role is responsible for updating, formatting, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other technical documents to support manufacturing operations and quality standards. The position works closely with cross-functional teams and the Operational Excellence group. Ideal candidates will have at least two years of technical writing or related manufacturing experience, strong skills in Microsoft Office, and familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS). This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to clearly communicate complex information in a structured, professional format.

Job Summary:

This Associate Technical Writer role is responsible for updating, formatting, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other technical documents to support manufacturing operations and quality standards. The position works closely with cross-functional teams and the Operational Excellence group to ensure documents align with IATF 16949:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 requirements. Ideal candidates will have at least two years of technical writing or related manufacturing experience, strong skills in Microsoft Office, and familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS). This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to clearly communicate complex information in a structured, professional format.

Essential Duties:

  • Update and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), standard work, and all other related documentation.
  • Apply templates and style guides to documents originating from Kansas and other sites.
  • Utilize document control process and the Quality Management System (QMS) to maintain IATF 16949:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  • Collaborate with the Operational Excellence team on training material needs.
  • Partner with intradepartmental and interdepartmental employees to continuously improve documents and document control processes.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

  • To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees, wearing PPE is a possibility and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Qualifications: Requirements – Required and/or Preferred

Education:

  • Basic/Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred: A.A. degree or two years of experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • Two years of previous technical writing experience or transferable experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience and skills using MS Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with a Quality Management System (QMS) and/or a document control system.
  • Exemplary knowledge of the English language including reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail regarding grammar, punctuation, and other writing conventions.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills including excellent listening and observation skills to support document creation and revision.
  • Results-orientated with the ability to plan and deliver against production deadlines and goals.
  • Resilient, self-motived, and able to work well under pressure.
  • Familiar with style guides such as MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to write and speak Spanish fluently.
  • Ability to write and speak Japanese fluently.
  • Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings.
  • Experience participating in Quality Management System (QMS) audits.
  • Experience with ISO 9001:2015 or IATF 16949:2016 standards.
  • Familiar with the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technical writing.
