The Associate Director of Product is responsible for the management and development of rugged mobility computer products and product related solutions to support key verticals within the PCONA Mobility organization. This individual will be responsible for managing a team of five-seven product managers as well as work closely with factory representative and the global product teams in Japan.
Responsibilities
This role will require 70% of time focusing on strategic trends in the key business verticals, analyze the competitive rugged market and successfully launching new product in a timely fashion to keep Panasonic in a position of market leadership. The other 30% of the role will be tactical and requires working closely with our sales team supporting customer events and meetings, supporting go to market team on product / solution launches and work with Mobility Marketing to promote the company voice with analysts and widespread media.
What You Will Do:
Develops, Manages and Implements product strategy for the mobility segment.
Responsible for managing the core product P&L through business plan revenue tracking and product volume distribution through our established channel.
Supports the development and execution of a new product strategy to support new and existing vertical segments across the mobility team.
Engage closely with Japanese product teams to communicate and collaborate on future products for the US market.
Supports the development and execution of product launch plans for the mobility segment.
Work closely with internal Supply Chain and Factory teams on EOL strategy for product segment.
Represent US at all Global Product meetings and align with our EU and Canada teams.
Competitive Landscape
Maintain acute awareness and understanding of competitive landscape within the Mobility Segment.
Supports a competitive analysis program in conjunction with sales and other PCONA business units.
Ensure steady delivery of competitive analysis and sales materials to the sales team (contract analysts, presentations, matrices, etc.)
Provides “how to sell against” guidance to sales team for our major competitive products.
Sales Support and Customer Engagement
Supports Advisory Council and Industry Analyst events to achieve goal of discovering insights to inform product updates to better address customer needs.
Manage teams support of sales related activities so there is a comprehensive understanding of the voice of customer.
Provide ongoing product training to sales and other business groups within PCONA.
Communicating Our Story
Collaborate with Marketing team to ensure product positioning and benefits for a successful product launch.
Engage with analyst and media to discuss specific product benefits and competitive advantages.
Manage a team 5-7 product managers and align work with over strategy of the larger product strategy.

Essential for success are a strong combination of strategic, analytical, and creative talent, excellent project management skills and a bias for action. The position is also highly dependent on relationships within marketing, operations, and sales teams. Requirements include good interpersonal skills, a strong orientation to collaboration and the ability to work very effectively in virtual teams. Critical to success is an understanding of key marketing communications metrics and an ability to analyze such metrics.
Scope:
This is a leadership role within the organization and will support a team of 5-7 direct reports and collaborate with several internal teams.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science preferred, with 10+ years in a strategic product management role in the technology sector required.
In additional to education the perfect candidate for this role will have 10+ years of managerial experience and proven success in launching products/solutions.
Problem Solving:
Self-motivated, resilient, can-do attitude to overcome obstacles and find resolution in sometimes difficult conditions.
Excellent judgment and be able to work in a challenging matrix management environment.
Communications:
Key communications capabilities and a strong level of persuasion required.
Excellent communications skills both written and verbal required. Strong interpersonal and project management skills as well as presentation skills required.
Management:
Establishes guidelines and expected levels of performance for direct reports and is dedicated to communicating, reinforcing, measuring, enforcing, and acting where necessary to ensure the highest level of employee performance.
Provides accountabilities and objectives for each direct report that clearly outlines performance expectations. Updates and communicates enhancements to accountabilities and objectives as required.
Provides annual training opportunities to all direct reports to enhance individual skill levels and performance.
Regularly monitors the progress of each direct report, effectively and promptly communicates opportunities for improvement and assists direct reports in creating their individual territory or go to market plans.
Delegates authority to encourage personal growth and identifies and develops future management from their team.
