As a Safety Intern in the 2026 Hussmann Summer Internship Program, you will support the EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) in developing training materials.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to identify risks and recommend effective controls.
- Update and maintain safety documentation to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
- Promote and reinforce a proactive, prevention‑focused safety culture across the organization.
- Identify potential hazards in the workplace and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Develop, revise, or create safety procedures, manuals, and related documentation as needed.
- Network with senior leaders, associates, and other program interns to learn about our organization.
- Compete in the annual Ideation & Innovation Challenge.
Ideation & Innovation Challenge: Throughout the twelve-week program, Hussmann interns will compete with a team of fellow interns in the Hussmann Ideation & Innovation Challenge. After being divided into cross-functional groups, interns will work to find a solution to the provided problem statement. They will then present the solution to a panel of judges, executive leaders, and the organization to compete in the IIC competition.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in school pursuing a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (safety, environmental, or engineering program preferred).
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization and work in industrial environments
- Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate strong attention to detail
- Highly motivated and eager to learn
- Strong computer skills
The summer internship will run from the third week of May through the second week of August. These dates may be changed to meet the needs of the student.
