Job Summary:

The Facilities Fire Systems Technician – Level 3 performs inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire protection and life-safety systems to ensure reliability, operational readiness, and regulatory compliance across the site. As part of the Facilities organization, this role supports fire alarm, detection, suppression, and related infrastructure systems while also serving as an assigned member of the site fire brigade. In coordination with Emergency Management and EHS, incumbents respond to fire alarms, thermal events, and other emergency incidents. Because this is not a full-time standby fire role, emergency response may require safely pausing active facilities work, securing the work area, donning protective equipment, and deploying to the scene as needed. Working under supervision, this position collaborates with internal teams and contractors to support safe, compliant, and resilient facility operations.

Essential Duties:

Functional Operations:

  • Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and repairs on fire alarm, suppression, and life-safety systems
  • Maintain working knowledge of site-specific hazards and emergency response procedures to support safe and compliant operations
  • Operate and maintain fire brigade tools and equipment, including inventory control
  • Support contractors during inspections, testing, and repairs by providing system access and technical assistance
  • Assist in reviewing contractor work and report deficiencies
  • Participate in initial emergency response actions for thermal events and unwanted system activations, following established emergency procedures and coordinating with internal teams and external responders as directed

Performance Optimization & Continuous Improvement:

  • Perform preventative maintenance
  • Identify system deficiencies and support corrective actions
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection documentation, and daily issue logs

Training & Team Support:

  • Train and mentor technicians at the same or lower level
  • Participate in certification and technical development programs (NICET, OSHA, NFPA, manufacturer training)
  • Participate in fire brigade, hazardous materials, and confined space response training
  • Support fire brigade drills and operational readiness activities
  • Participate in thermal event, safety, and emergency response training

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication:

  • Maintain working knowledge of site hazards and emergency procedures
  • Maintain qualifications required for fire brigade support duties
  • Support documentation and sharing of lessons learned
  • Collaborate with Facilities, EHS, Emergency Management, contractors, and external agencies to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner

Quality, Safety, & Compliance:

  • Follow established procedures to maintain compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company policies
  • Support Permit to Work activities as required
  • Fulfill assigned fire brigade and emergency response responsibilities consistent with training and site procedures
  • Support proper implementation of processes and procedures
  • Maintain 6S and plant quality standards
  • Meet PPE and physical requirements
  • Work all assigned shift hours

Education, Certifications, and Licenses:

Required:

  • High school diploma, GED, or 2 years of prior experience in functional area
  • Current state-issued driver's license
  • Firefighter I Certification

Preferred:

  • Associate degree in Fire Protection Technology, Fire Science, Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Systems, Engineering, or related technical field
  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship program in facilities maintenance, fire protection, electrical, sprinkler fitting, or related trade
  • Relevant technical training in fire alarm, suppression systems, or life-safety systems
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • HAZWOPER 24
  • ICS 100/200
  • CPR Certification

Essential Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Fire Systems Technician, Emergency Responder (EMS, LE, FD), or relevant field
  • SCBA fit testing and firefighter physical clearance required
  • Ability to lift, climb ladders, work at heights, and work in confined spaces
  • Capable of performing emergency response duties while wearing full structural firefighting PPE
  • Basic knowledge of electrical safety practices and lockout/tagout procedures
  • Experience with low‑voltage systems, such as fire alarm, security, or building automation wiring
  • Background in plumbing, pipe‑fitting, or mechanical trades, particularly involving water‑based fire protection systems
  • Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Alignment to Panasonic’s seven (7) core principles (contribution to society, fairness and honesty, cooperation and team spirit, untiring effort for improvement, courtesy and humility, adaptability, gratitude)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience as a Fire Systems Technician, Emergency Responder (EMS, LE, FD), or relevant field
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards such as National Fire Protection Association NFPA 70E and NFPA 70B
  • Experience with integrated building systems (BMS, security, HVAC interfaces with fire alarm systems)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical manuals
  • Knowledge of building fire protection standards, system types (fire alarm, dampers, dry/wet, standpipes, fire hydrants, and fire suppression), sequence of operations, emergency procedures, and fire watch procedures
  • Previous experience participating in an industrial or facility‑based fire brigade or emergency response team
  • Experience interacting with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) during inspections or testing activities
  • Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, or large campus environments

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

  • To ensure health and safety in the workplace and for employee protection, wearing PPE is required and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator. A respirator fit test will be required based on functional area.
