Job Description

What is the opportunity?

RBC is seeking an experienced Vice President level Equity Research Analyst to join the Australian Small Cap Industrials Equity Research team in either our Sydney or Melbourne offices. In this role, you will own primary research coverage of assigned companies and sectors, managing relationships with institutional investors and corporates while providing research insights. You will lead fundamental analysis, develop investment theses, and drive thought leadership across our coverage universe. RBC provides investment research to institutional fund managers in Australia and offshore.

What will you need to do?

  • Lead research coverage of 12-15 assigned companies, developing original investment theses and maintaining deep sector expertise
  • Build, maintain, and enhance financial models in Microsoft Excel and translate these into clear investment narratives
  • Develop and manage comprehensive databases of key industry data points, competitive positioning, and sector trends to inform investment views
  • Conduct regular meetings with key stakeholders including corporate investor relations, company management, other industry participants and institutional investors
  • Mentor junior research analysts and coordinate cross-sector collaboration on thematic research initiatives
  • Uphold RBC's reputation and commitment to compliance by adhering to all firm policies, global regulations, and compliance standards; demonstrate the highest ethical standards and integrity at all times.

What you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • Relevant experience preferably gained within banking, sell-side research, buy-side investment analysis or within industry
  • Demonstrated track record of producing high-quality, actionable research that influences investor decision-making
  • Deep expertise in financial modeling and valuation methodologies across multiple scenarios and company types
  • Exceptional writing, analytical, and presentation skills; ability to communicate complex investment ideas
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and familiarity with Bloomberg and FactSet
  • Experience managing relationships with C-suite executives (CEO, CFO) and IR teams
  • Ability to develop independent investment perspectives and support recommendations with conviction
  • Strategic thinking to identify sector trends and investment opportunities ahead of market consensus
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent company relationships and research initiatives in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with autonomy while collaborating effectively within a team environment

Nice to have:

  • CFA qualification or,
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related quantitative field or,
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification
