A Software Release Engineer is a key role responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the release of software products or updates. The primary objective is to ensure a smooth and efficient software release process while maintaining a high standard for quality.

Job Summary:

The Software Release Engineer is responsible for managing the end-to-end software release process, from planning through deployment, to ensure the successful and efficient delivery of software products or updates. This role involves coordination with various teams, risk management, quality management, and the establishment of release best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Release Coordination: Oversee the execution of release activities, including code integration, testing, and deployment. Ensure that the release process adheres to established policies and standards.

Release Communications: Collaborate with product managers, development teams, and marketing teams to define release scope, objectives, and timelines. Create a release calendar with clearly defined milestones.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify potential risks and issues that may impact the release schedule or quality. Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.

Release Documentation: Maintain comprehensive release documentation, including release notes, version control, and change logs. Ensure that all stakeholders are informed about the contents of each release.

Deployment Management: Coordinate and monitor the deployment process, ensuring that software is released with minimal disruption to production systems. Develop rollback plans in case of unexpected issues.

Quality Assurance: Collaborate with teams to ensure thorough testing and validation of software prior to release. Verify that all acceptance criteria are met.

Release Optimization: Continuously improve the release process by implementing best practices, tools, and metrics for tracking release performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in release management, project management, or related roles.

  • Strong understanding of software development and release processes.

  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple concurrent releases.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $172,500 to $237,200.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
