Role Description

The Data & AI Research & Insights team focuses on the intersection between data and AI. We support product strategy, user experience, and customer success across two key product pillars: Data Cloud and AI Platform.

We are seeking a Principal Researcher / Research Architect who can distill sophisticated problems into insights that advise product, design, development and business decisions. The ideal candidate will have domain expertise in data platforms, data management, and infrastructural AI — think data security and governance, ingesting unstructured data, AI model feedback and grounding, vector databases. Familiarity with enterprise data solutions and the market for them, along with sophisticated proficiency with mixed methods, will be a benefit.

Your Impact

  • Scope and drive full research programs, from study execution to executive management, to advise product strategy, design, and development

  • Proactively partner with senior management across cross-functional teams, including product, design, engineering, customer success, and solution architects to identify and advocate for product strategy rooted in data and customer insights

  • Synthesize research findings into actionable insights, crafting narratives to frame problems and highlight the business value of recommended solutions

  • Socialize insights with cross-functional partners to influence their decision-making

  • Work on fast-paced and oftentimes ambiguous projects, requiring attention to detail and working within constrained timelines, by staying true to scope and focus on end goals and outcomes

  • Conduct generative and evaluative research using a mixture of research methods (surveys, un-moderated testing, interviews, sophisticated analytics, etc.)

  • Partner fully with product owners, designers, engineers, and other researchers to provide the best possible experience for our users and customers.

  • Manage multiple cross-functional programs across research initiatives, including triangulating data (qualitative and quantitative), crafting operational frameworks, and delivering evergreen assets

Minimum Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience conducting research in product research, user research, market research, or technology contexts

  • Expert understanding of research methods (qualitative and quantitative) and standard processes, and familiarity with a broad range of user research tools

  • Expert understanding in advanced survey methodologies and tools (i.e. MaxDiff, Conjoints, segmentation, sophisticated analytics, SPSS, R)

  • Proven track record influencing product direction and strategy with actionable insights

  • Ability to plan, design, implement and communicate both strategic and tactical research engagements

  • Ability to structure and lead internal and external workshops and analyze the outcomes to provide insight for partners

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams (e.g. customer success, solution architects, design, product management, engineering, marketing)

  • Excellent project management, communication, storytelling, and presentation skills

  • Bonus: Previous research or demonstrated ability in enterprise software, data solutions, and/or AI capabilities

Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance and the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring, Salesforce will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.For New York-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $233,300 to $355,900.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $213,900 to $326,300.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $233,300 to $355,900.Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
