Technical Coach, Sr Director

Salesforce is looking for a Technical Coach to join our team of Agile Coaches! As a member of our team, your primary focus will be on coaching the software development teams to find ways to improve their ability to iterate on the quality of their product through embedded coaching engagements. Through these engagements, the Technical Coach will play a vital role in developing a culture of collaborative learning within the team, fostering a deeper understanding of the product, and guiding the teams to develop technical practices that will increase their ability to reduce their cycle time and build the right product in a sustainable way. You will encourage knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving while connecting technical changes with key performance indicators (KPIs) for continuous improvement.

Additionally, you will facilitate collaborative immersive learning environments and bring the teams together to discover the boundaries of the code they own. Your hands-on experience in applying technical practices such as test-driven development and consumer-driven contract tests will be instrumental in coaching the teams to develop testing strategies that use the dependency boundaries of their software to improve the speed at which they can iterate on the quality of their code.

Responsibilities:
Develop Collaborative Understanding:

  • Work as a member of our Agile Coach team, focusing on guiding and coaching software development teams to collaboratively understand their product and the collective process of building it.

Knowledge Sharing:

  • Promote a culture of knowledge sharing within and across teams to enhance understanding and technical proficiency.

Technical Practice Development:

  • Use your extensive hands-on experience of test-driven development to facilitate the development of technical practices within the teams, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and continuous learning.

Boundary Discovery:

  • Bring the teams together to discover the boundaries of the code they own, fostering a deeper understanding of code ownership and responsibilities.

Coaching Testing Strategies:

  • Coach the teams in developing testing strategies that leverage code boundaries to improve code quality and the speed of iteration.

Issue Identification and Resolution:

  • Use coaching skills to guide teams in identifying and addressing challenges related to security, product constraints, or architectural limitations.

Agile Methodology Implementation:

  • Assist teams in implementing Agile methodologies, ensuring they follow Agile principles and encouraging collaborative practices.

DevOps:

  • Coach operability of software is a first class concern. The ideal candidate will be able to articulate the benefits of staggered rollouts using techniques such as feature flags and assist teams in learning to use these safely at scale.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Promote effective collaboration between technical and non-technical team members.

  • Encourage cross-functional teams to deliver the right set of product features.

Feedback and Cycle Time Improvement:

  • Implement feedback mechanisms to continuously improve the cycle time in product delivery.

  • Analyze performance data and KPIs to identify opportunities for optimization.

Culture of Improvement:

  • Instill a culture of continuous improvement within the development teams, emphasizing practices like collaborative coding dojo sessions.

  • Encourage teams to regularly reflect on their processes and outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • A related technical degree required.

  • 12+ years of experience in technology organizations.

  • 5+ years of large-scale Agile coaching experience with methods such as XP, Scrum, Lean, or Kanban.

  • Hands-on experience applying Agile/Lean methodologies within product, infrastructure, hardware, and/or operational environments.

  • Experience with immersive learning and/or coding dojo

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $193,200 to $326,300.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $210,800 to $355,900.Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
