We are currently looking for a Database Engineer in Infrastructure Engineering for our global team. The Infrastructure Engineering team is a fast-paced, dynamic, global team delivering and supporting technology infrastructure to meet the substantial growth needs of the business and is essential to deployment of all new equipment and upgrades to hardware and software. In this role, you will collaborate with other Systems, Network, Database and Storage Engineers in delivering innovative solutions in an agile, dynamic environment. Key to this position will be a focus on operational excellence and automation in a secure, high-performance, highly available (99.999%) and fully resilient infrastructure across multiple data centers. You will also be investing yourself into the Salesforce cloud database running on groundbreaking cloud technology & responsible for its reliability.

The ideal candidate would be a Database Engineer with a strong Cloud and DevOps background (e.g. AWS, GCP).


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Production operational day-to-day activities including monitoring and DB performance, DB releases, patching, backup and maintenance which are sometimes scheduled during weekends or after-office hrs.

  • Configure and maintain Oracle Clusters environments (RAC) and Replication environments (Data Guard) and other database infrastructures.

  • Design, build, automate and deploy highly available, robust, resilient and secure database solutions.

  • Design and scale out services in our multi-tenant infrastructure.

  • Works in conjunction with multiple teams to make sure that the infrastructure and the applications that depend on it work harmoniously together.

  • Document all operational processes and procedures to optimize support and management of deployed systems - demonstrate proficiency in establishing repeatable processes.

  • Adopt, embrace and promote agile practices.

  • Perform Design/Code reviews.

  • Strive for quality - Develop test strategies, build automation framework, write unit and functional tests to build solid test coverage.

  • Contribute towards new and ongoing Technology projects in areas of Scalability, Performance and High Availability and Automation.

  • Collaborate with Architects, performance engineers and system administrators on database and system optimizations.

  • Investigate production issues and perform root cause analysis.

  • On call rotation for production support.

Job Requirements

  • A related technical degree required.

  • At least 5 years’ experience as an Oracle DBA with software development experience.

  • Broad and deep knowledge of at least 2 relational databases, including Oracle, PostgreSQL & MySQL.

  • A cloud certification (such as AWS / GCP cloud certification) is highly desirable.

  • Experience with related cloud technologies: Docker, Spinnaker, Terraform, Helm, Jenkins, GIT etc. Exposure to zookeeper fundamentals & Kubernetes is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with Cloud technologies such as RDS, Redshift, DynamoDB, IAM, EC2, S3, CLI, SDK, or equivalent cloud services.

  • Exposure and deep understanding of non-relational database technologies as well as preferable Hadoop, HDFS, or equivalent technologies.

  • Exposure to a fast pace environment with large scale cloud infrastructure setup.

  • Proficiency in coding in UNIX shell and SQL, and at least one procedural language such as Python, Ruby, Java, Perl, and C++.

  • Experience in implementing automated tools.

  • Good communication and documentation skills.

  • Ability to learn quickly and deliver high quality code in a fast-paced, agile team environment.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and to work proactively.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with DevOps (CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, GKE, deployment to AWS).

  • Exposure to Hadoop Filesystem, Apache Zookeeper/Bookkeeper is a plus.

  • Knowledge of metrics & monitoring (e.g., Grafana, Splunk, Argus etc.)

  • Experience in Infrastructure as Code / Automation is advantageous.

  • Should have worked in Agile methodology.

  • Solid understanding of all software development process phases, from initial requirements to operational support.

  • Ability to deliver initiatives & Innovation from conception through completion.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $146,600 to $237,200.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
