What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an experienced team member for the W80-4 Joint Test Team (job title: R&D Systems Engineer). Your responsibilities will include helping plan and execute joint tests with the United States Air Force and Raytheon and applying the results of those tests to system qualification.
On any given day, you may be called upon to:
Work with a tightly integrated team to test and qualify nuclear weapon systems.
Conduct requirement interpretation, clarification, and verification.
Coordinate test planning and analysis of test data.
Support the overall development and qualification efforts.
Work with engineers from multiple agencies, including, but not limited to the US Air Force, NNSA, and Raytheon
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite at least 60% of the time.
Qualifications We Require:
Bachelor's degree in relevant STEM discipline plus (5) or more years’ related experience; or Master’s degree in relevant STEM discipline plus (3) or more years related experience; or equivalent engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform independent research and development
Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%
Active U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, or equivalent DOD Top Secret level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
Experience with lab or field testing
Previous nuclear weapon system or component experience
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, demonstrating initiative and leadership
Motivation to work with a large integrated Systems team with broad interaction
Demonstrated ability to plan and execute technical work
Prior project management and leadership experience
Demonstrated ability to integrate, build, and work effectively across technical teams, to resolve issues and conduct trade-offs to identify system solutions
Ability to negotiate competing requirements to give the best system-level outcome

About Our Team:
The W80-4 System Qualification Department (8262) is one of several departments leading the system levelactivities for the W80-4 Life Extension Program (LEP) at Sandia National Laboratories. The W80-4 systems team consists of integrated departments in NM and CA that plan, coordinate, and execute the design, development, and qualification activities in partnership with internal and external customers and stakeholders.The System Qualification department is responsible for activities supporting system qualification, system-level hardware management, and Joint warhead/missile qualification. The department works closely with other W80-4 system departments and other core partner organizations in project management, information management, modeling and simulation, analysis, quality, test, and hardware management and assembly. The department also works closely with external partners to include Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), Pantex, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Air Force, and the LRSO missile contractor.

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
