Ready to Start your Journey with Scotiabank? Apply Now!
For students applying to our internship/co-op or new graduate programs, we do not require resumes! We believe in evaluating you through relationships over resumes and are eager to learn about you, your interests, and your potential.
There's no better way to kickstart your career than to do a co-op or internship with Scotiabank! During your work term, you’ll have the opportunity to be part of a winning team, build your network, and discover what you love – all while getting paid to do it! There’s a place for every type of student at Scotiabank and all that we ask for is that you have passion and strong AOO (Attitude, Ownership and Opportunity).
The Velocity Program is not your average internship or co-op! This is a customized experience that focuses on providing you with the development and tools you need to grow your career. After successfully completing a co-op or internship with top performance, we will work with you to establish your future placements. As a result, you will get to learn, grow, and experiment within different areas of both Scotiabank and Tangerine!
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic student to join our DevOps team. As a DevOps Student, you will work closely with our development and operations teams to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of software products. You will be responsible for automating workflows, monitoring application performance, and deploying code in short time periods. You will also be responsible for maintaining and improving our infrastructure, ensuring that it is scalable, secure, and reliable.
Alongside your core engineering role, you will also take part in our Innovation Pod experience - a one-of-a-kind startup-style program where small, cross-functional teams design, build, and prototype their own innovative products using the scale, data, and technology of a major bank. Pods explore emerging technologies, tackle real business challenges, and bring ideas to life through working prototypes, culminating in a high-energy Innovation Demo Day.
With hands-on engineering work, modern tools and platforms, mentorship from senior technical leaders, monthly executive AMAs, and a culture that values curiosity, ownership, and innovation, this program gives you the rare opportunity to build like a startup — with the stability and reach of a global enterprise.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the development and operations teams to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of software products.
- Automate workflows and continuously measure application performance.
- Deploy code in short time periods.
- Maintain and improve our infrastructure, ensuring that it is scalable, secure, and reliable.
- Collaborate with other teams to identify and resolve issues.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Curious, self-starter
Why Global Banking & Markets? A student might be excited to work in a Capital Markets Technology team for a mix of reasons that blend finance, tech, and real-world impact.
- Exposure to High-Stakes, Fast-Paced Environments
- Capital markets operate at the heart of the global economy. Tech built for trading platforms, risk systems, or market data needs to be ultra-low latency, resilient, and scalable.

- Blend of Finance and Technology
- For someone interested in both fields, it’s the perfect intersection: understanding complex financial instruments while applying cutting-edge software engineering.
- It’s not just tech for tech’s sake—it’s tech with deep business purpose.
- Challenging Problems
- Whether it’s optimizing algorithmic trading, building real-time data pipelines, or ensuring regulatory compliance via automation—the problems are tough and intellectually stimulating.
- Learning Opportunities
- Students can pick up both technical skills (e.g. distributed systems, real-time data processing) and financial knowledge (e.g. derivatives, equities, FX).
- Learning from experts in both fields offers a steep and exciting learning curve.
- Visible Impact
- The tools and systems they work on can directly affect the firm’s revenue or market position. That’s real, measurable impact, early in a career.
- Innovation & Modern Tech Stack
- Capital markets tech often adopts high-performance computing, cloud, data engineering, AI/ML for insights and strategy—great playground for curious minds.
