What you will be doing:

As the Sr. Manager, Credit Risk Business Banking, you will be responsible for exercising sound credit judgement and providing quality underwriting decisions. You are to adhere to Bank policy and established exception authorities, while balancing production objectives.

ACE’s role is to review credit applications requiring an exception for Retail Branches, Private Banking, Indirect Mortgage, Indirect Auto, and Business Banking (Branch, Health Care & Professional Banking, and Agriculture) channel.

You will contribute to the overall success of the Adjudication Centre of Expertise ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. You will also ensure all activities conducted follow governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

You will adjudicate more complex and larger credit applications within the Business Banking portfolio including specialty programs, credit facilities for professionals, Agriculture, Franchising, predominantly on credits for SPP (Scotia Professional Plan) for high end limits of Business Banking and lower end limits of Commercial Banking.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Provide high quality and in-depth credit decisions by:
    • Effectively analyzing partner credit submissions, with related documentation and rationale.
    • Demonstrating awareness of broad industry related risks relevant across the Canadian Economy.
    • Applying expert credit judgement, usage of the applicable 5 C’s of credit, and ensuring consistent application of policies and processes.
    • Adjudicating within established limits and exception authority and presenting quality recommendations on requests above established limits.
  • Deliver an effective and timely customer experience by:
    • Ensuring all partner interactions are professional, respectful, and value added.
    • Providing recommendations/alternative solutions and restructuring credit requests, with coaching/direction to partners as required.
    • Acting with a sense of urgency in response to partner requests to meet customer expectations.
  • Contribute to ACE objectives/commitments by:
    • Delivering against established ACE Service Level Agreement targets by consistently achieving metrics as established and contributing to “First Time Right”.
    • Being accountable and contributing to Lean management activities including problem solving sessions, coaching, and huddles.
  • Optimizing Risk and Return by:
    • Clearly identifying risks and exceptions using strong rationale and associated mitigants to support the decision.
    • Operate within the Bank’s risk appetite and culture in day-to-day activities and decisions.
    • Identifying and escalating any identified issues (e.g. Anti-Money Laundering-AML; Privacy; Know Your Customer- KYC; Compliance).
    • Working within Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles.
  • Contribute to team and personal development by:

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • A comprehensive knowledge of the Bank’s Business Banking products/services and lending policies and procedures.
  • Intermediate accounting and financial statement analysis.
  • Expert understanding of risk assessment, credit structures/protections, credit documentation, financial projections, and Equifax/TransUnion credit reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem resolution skills.
  • Strong coaching, leadership, and demonstrated facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of all relevant systems as applicable to the ACE unit, the Bank’s interactive systems and Microsoft Tools (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote).
  • Thorough knowledge of The Bank’s Regulatory and Compliance requirements as they relate to credit granting, including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering (AML)/Anti-Terrorist Financing; and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.
  • Strong team player and skillful in developing harmonious relationships with Unit team members and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability in administering a Commercial credit portfolio.
  • Effective communication (bilingual English/French - written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are necessary for professional interaction with partners and business lines to ensure a high level of credibility.
