The Team

Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast‑moving, award‑winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank’s Corporate, Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses.

The Role

GBME is searching for a Senior Platform Engineer who is a continuous learner and is eager to boost the capabilities of capital markets platforms. The successful candidate will have a strong engineering mindset and will work closely with Data Engineering, Cloud, and Architecture teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient platforms.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Work closely with end users and engineering teams to understand platform requirements, conduct gap analysis, and assess operational needs.
  • Design, build, and own cloud‑native platforms supporting data and application workloads.
  • Lead the development and operation of Kubernetes‑based runtime environments for batch and real‑time solutions.
  • Own the full lifecycle of platform services, including design, implementation, deployment, and production support.
  • Partner with Architecture and development teams on platform design, integration, and standards.
  • Experience supporting and operating existing database platforms, including PostgreSQL, within cloud‑native and containerized environments.
  • Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines to support automated, secure, and repeatable deployments.
  • Develop automation, microservices, and infrastructure‑as‑code to improve platform efficiency.
  • Define and implement observability standards including logging, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Support platform services in production, troubleshoot complex issues, and perform root‑cause analysis as needed.
  • Improve developer and end‑user experience by delivering scalable platform capabilities and resolving complex ad‑hoc issues.
  • Effectively communicate with technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Participate in SCRUM / Agile ceremonies.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • 7+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or SRE roles.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Kubernetes and Docker in production environments.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably GCP or Azure.
  • Strong experience with CI/CD tooling (e.g., Git, Jenkins, Helm).
  • Experience working with databases and data infrastructure (e.g., SQL Server, Elasticsearch, Redis).
  • Experience with messaging or streaming systems such as Kafka.
  • Strong proficiency in Linux environments.
  • Experience developing automation or services using Python, Java, Go, or Bash.
  • Familiarity with enterprise logging and monitoring tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Loki).
  • Proven ability to own platforms end‑to‑end and support production‑critical systems in regulated environments.
