MANAGER, LAUNCH BUILD RELIABILITY ENGINEERING (STARSHIP)

This role is responsible for establishing and managing a team of build reliability engineers and leading NDE inspectors alongside NDE engineers, specialists, and supervisors. The Manager, Launch Build Reliability Engineering is an advocate for mission success at Starbase launch/test sites, promoting efficient, safe, and reliable operational success. SpaceX is a very dynamic environment and an organization that always challenges itself to do newer and more difficult things, with the ultimate goal of starting a colony on Mars. This leader must be able to adapt to rapidly changing requirements, schedules, deadlines, and shifts in company focus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead reliability initiatives covering improvements in system redundancy, fluid system documentation, pressure vessel maintenance, flight hardware interfaces, inspection, maintenance, and more
  • Lead the team of NDE supervisors and inspectors, providing daily support to all NDE inspections in multiple NDE resource centers across GSE production, test, and launch sites
  • Make data-driven decisions to improve program processes and reduce risk, enabling rapid, safe, and high-quality Stage-0 operations
  • Identify process improvements and ensure operations are lean, efficient, safe, and effective. Develop appropriate metrics and goals for each resource center and work with supervisors and teams to achieve improved results
  • Find smart solutions to the biggest problems by leading root cause and corrective action investigations
  • Assess employee performance and provide positive and constructive feedback
  • Ensure adequate training plans are available for all employees to enable career growth and to meet the needs of SpaceX
  • Work with NDE Engineering, Production, Build Reliability, and Design Engineering partners to support our mission
  • Manage capital expenditures and operational expenditures for the team
  • Interact with the various disciplines responsible for the development and build of Starship, Super Heavy Booster, and Stage-0 systems to ensure optimized process health
  • Identify high-risk processes and problems during vehicle processing, and proactively implement improvements to these processes to ensure operational excellence
  • Maintain a feedback loop to drive hardware inputs that enable a reliable and rapid launch cadence, using data to make the quality landscape transparent and drive prioritization of resolving high impact issues
  • Maintain a positive, safe, and healthy work environment and continually promote SpaceX culture and values

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or STEM discipline
  • 5+ years of industry product or process design/development experience, specifically focused within production or integration systems
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership position with direct reports

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High degree of comfort in a manufacturing environment, working to identify and execute efficiency improvements in all aspects of production and manufacturing
  • Significant exposure to a wide variety of fabrication, integration, and testing methodologies
  • A proven track record of leadership and team building within a rapidly changing environment
  • Experience in a high-volume/high-complexity production background, such as automotive, commercial aviation, aerospace, or consumer electronics
  • Consistent record of exceptional personal achievements and contributions that have supported career progression to-date
  • Demonstrated examples of serving as a leadership focal point and decision-maker
  • Experience in both sub-assembly production and final vehicle assembly/test experience

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, and walk
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends to meet critical deadlines as needed
  • Must be willing to travel to remote sites as needed (10-20%)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Manager, Launch Build Reliability Engineering: $150,000.00 - $190,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
