SUPERVISOR, TOOL & DIE MACHINING (STARLINK)

The Tool & Die Machining Supervisor is responsible for all machining processes within the shop. This supervisor will be tasked with ensuring that all areas of production are meeting internal and corporate goals. Key components of this position will be reporting to machine tool and die management and troubleshooting production issues. It also requires working with programmers, machinist, manufacturing engineers, and quality engineers to identify and execute process improvements and to automate repetitive manual tasks. Candidate should have strong emotional intelligence that can drive change and hold teams accountable, which is a key for success in this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure all work is completed on time and to specification
  • Responsible for mentoring, leading and supervising up to 20 employees
  • Troubleshooting manufacturing operations, especially machining processes
  • Supervise the production flow within the machine shop, ensuring safety and the efficiency of the entire machine shop area
  • Work with shop floor, manufacturing engineers, and quality teams to resolve reoccurring nonconformance issues
  • Review work order instructions with planners and manufacturing engineers to ensure shop floor technicians have accurate and complete instructions and if necessary, recommend changes
  • Meet tight and moving production schedules
  • Manage cutting tool inventory, monitor tooling costs, and work with the machining teams to provide overall departmental cost reductions
  • Drive shop floor culture, enforce systems and corporate policies
  • Develop and drive shop floor metrics/improvements
  • Monitor labor hours and overtime, approve timecards and assist in the implementation of time management and improvement plan
  • Develop and drive regular machine maintenance with the facilities team
  • Coordinate machine supplier support during problematic situations
  • Evaluating team members through mid-term / annual reviews
  • Provide regular reports on the shop/project productivity status regularly
  • Manage and direct machine schedule changes through critical path situations

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 5+ years of experience in the role of a CNC programmer/machinist (including NX)
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role within a manufacturing environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field
  • 10+ years of experience in the role of a CNC programmer/machinist (including NX)
  • Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt, experience in lean implementation
  • Experience with Heidenhain controls
  • Experience converting labor intensive processes into lights out scenarios
  • Experience supervising 10+ machinists/technicians along with 10+ machines, simultaneously
  • Experience leading machinists and/or technicians to work with support teams on process development and continuous improvement efforts
  • Experience developing teams within a machining cell (i.e. to create a ratio of one machining tech to operate three or four machines)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Well versed in GD&T and inspection procedures and processes
  • Experience working with production metrics

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be capable of lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • This is a 1st shift role, but must be available for all shifts, extended hours and weekends as needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:

Supervisor, Tool & Die Machining (Starlink): $105,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
