LEAD WORKPLACE TECHNICIAN

As a member of the Workplace team, you will help design, build, activate and maintain some of the world's most technically advanced manufacturing facilities. You will be able to operate with autonomy to solve diverse and complex problems, excel at managing multiple projects at a time and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. As a Lead Workplace Technician, you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience, and creativity to develop novel solutions at the cutting edge of space technology. You will work with other infrastructure engineers, technicians, and internal customers to support these goals and have the opportunity to drive real global impact, ultimately leading to making life multiplanetary. The position is based in Hawthorne, CA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mentor and perform as part of a team of technicians responsible for all facilities maintenance and soft services at the SpaceX Hawthorne Facility
  • Perform routine building maintenance tasks such as assembling furniture, painting touch ups, door adjustments, minor wall repairs, replacing ceiling/flooring tiles and carpeting
  • Effectively manage a large portfolio of projects in different stages of repair and execution
  • Delegate tasks to technicians and hold them accountable for achieving results and deadlines. Must be able to perform tasks autonomously in order to fill-in when technicians are not present
  • Aid janitorial and hospitality staff with general requests for support including moving furniture, racks/equipment, disposing of garbage using forklifts, set-up and tear down of special event areas
  • Take furnishing, furniture, and equipment blueprints and arrange according to plan/direction
  • Run the workplace technician organization schedule on a day-to-day basis
  • Be the point-of-contact for leadership to ask questions on project schedules and blockers and be able to provide guidance and re-direction of tasks
  • Ensure that all workplace services interface properly with other facility systems, including compatibility with facility budgets
  • Follow all applicable SpaceX, local, state, and federal building codes, regulations, and laws
  • Responsible for material management, shop organization, and worksite cleanliness
  • Responsible for day-to-day financial obligations of the team – including but not limited to issuing purchase orders, purchase agreements, invoices and request for proposals
  • Responsible for identifying issues on campus and recommending proactive upgrades to leadership
  • Collaborate with engineers, managers, and customers to develop/update detailed work instructions for routine installations and repairs
  • Oversee projects, repairs or service done by outside vendors/contractors.
  • Provide exceptional customer service when interacting with team members, customers, and vendors
  • Perform all of the responsibilities and duties of a Workplace Technician

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate
  • 5+ years of experience installing modular furniture systems, corporate or commercial furniture, major moves, or repair work
  • 1+ years of leadership experience of a team or project

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 1+ year of facilities, maintenance, or construction experience
  • Familiar with space planning procedures and operations
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
  • Experience with managing commercial, office, or industrial facilities
  • Self-motivated, works well with others and autonomously
  • Ability to perform finish carpentry tasks, such as door installation and framing, drywall repair, cabinetry
  • Experienced or certified with product lines such as Knoll, Teknion, or Allsteel
  • Possesses a good attitude, willingness to learn, flexibility, and is a self-starter
  • Demonstrates a consistent record of punctual schedule adherence
  • Comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction
  • Ability to produce high quality work independently and efficiently, without supervision required
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to generate service reports and communicate within the company including skills to navigate web-based service literature and programs

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Work hours depend on site priorities and may require extended hours, weekends and holidays; flexibility required. Strong attendance and adhering to the work schedule is an essential function of the role
  • Periodic work in extreme outdoor environments: heat, cold, wind, rain
  • Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
  • Able to work at elevated heights (up to 150 feet), including the use of ladders and/or stairs
  • Must have a valid CA driver’s license
  • Up to 10% travel

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Lead Workplace Technician /Level 2: $23.50 - $27.00/hour + $2.00/hour differential
Lead Workplace Technician /Level 3: $26.00 - $30.00/hour + $2.00/hour differential
Lead Workplace Technician /Level 4: $29.00 - $33.00/hour + $2.00/hour differential
Lead Workplace Technician /Level 5: $32.00 - $35.00/hour + $2.00/hour differential

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
