SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER – MECHANICAL/THERMAL TOOLING, SATELLITES (STARLINK)

At SpaceX we’re leveraging our experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to 9M+ users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system – thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We’ve only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink’s potential global impact and are looking for best-in-class engineers to help maximize Starlink’s utility for communities and businesses around the globe.

In this role, you will specialize in the development of thermal and degradation analysis tools that will allow us to ensure our space safety standards are met for future satellite designs. This position combines software engineering and thermal engineering knowledge to develop analysis capability and automate work across the thermal team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build custom software infrastructure and tooling to support thermal analysis simulations
  • Automate analysis workflows to reduce engineering burden
  • Validate and verify analysis tools and thermal models against experimental data, flight telemetry, or benchmark re-entry scenarios.
  • Drive tests that will increase the fidelity of the available tools
  • Produce quality documentation of your work
  • Pursue performance and robustness improvements in existing tools and processes

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, physics, or a related field
  • 1+ years of professional experience (internship or co-op experience can apply)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong background in Python and computer science fundamentals
  • Understanding of thermal/fluid networks (0-D or 1-D modeling)
  • Experience automating engineering workflows or simulations
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in MATLAB, C/C++, Git, Thermal Desktop, ANSYS Workbench, Siemens STAR-CCM+
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to deliver against an aggressive schedule

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed for mission critical deadlines

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Software Engineer/Level I: $122,500.00 - $145,000.00/per year
Software Engineer/Level II: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00/per year
