Position Specification: Greater China Legal and Compliance Counsel
Position Summary
Spencer Stuart is seeking a professional for the newly created role of Greater China Legal and Compliance Counsel. This position will be critical in developing and enhancing our compliance function in Greater China and is strategically positioned in the Legal department. Reporting directly to the Regional General Counsel for Asia Pacific, the Greater China Legal and Compliance Counsel will play an essential role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks that could impact the Greater China operations.
Location
The position is available in Shanghai.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Research, Analysis, and Mitigation
Monitor legal, regulatory, and risk management trends in Greater China and provide insights to the team.
Work with a team to design and implement risk management, risk tracking, and risk mitigation strategies in Greater China.
Policy Development and Management
Collaborate with team members to develop, update, implement, and enforce Greater China policies and procedures.
Conduct research to identify best practices and trends regarding Greater China policies and procedures.
Develop and Implement Employee Training Programs
Collaborate with team members to develop, update, and facilitate Greater China training programs.
Know Your Client (KYC)
Perform comprehensive online research on potential and existing clients or vendors.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree, ideally in law or risk management
China Legal practicing license preferred
Experience
Previous experience within an in-house legal function conducting risk analysis, compliance, or a similar field within a professional services firm is advantageous.
Familiarity with China data privacy, security laws and related laws.
Previous experience working with a team to develop, draft, update, and implement country specific policies and procedures.
Previous experience developing, updating and implementing risk and compliance training for Greater China.
Skills
Draft clear, concise, structured, and business-friendly emails, reports, policies, and procedures with the ability to explain these in clear, concise responses.
Develop and facilitate effective training presentations in a clear, business friendly, and compelling manner.
Able to develop strong business partnerships within the team.
Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple time-sensitive projects independently and collaboratively.
A proactive, curious mindset with a focus on customer service and strategic problem-solving.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Mandarin.
