Stanford Graduate School of Business seeks a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst. The BI Analyst will work to develop a robust data-informed ecosystem for the GSB External Relations Office. The analyst will be part of a groundbreaking and innovative analytical approach to both alumni relations and development at the GSB. This position will focus on the long-term technical infrastructure and leverage university-wide resources to support the team's day-to-day operations and strategy.

In this role, you will be able to design compelling information-sharing systems, articulate and capture the impact of External Relations within the GSB, act as a trusted partner, collaborator/advisor, and grow in a hands-on, supportive, data-informed community.

Your primary responsibilities* include:

  • Perform activities involving decision support systems, query and reporting, online analytical processing, data profiling (OLAP cubes, slice & dice, drilling), statistical analysis, forecasting, and data mining to support long-range planning for development and alumni relations. Develop insightful business intelligence reports (KPIs, metrics, ad-hoc queries), dashboards, scorecards, continuous monitoring (thresholds), and/or ad hoc analyses that facilitate an at-a-glance understanding of the current state of campaigns and other initiatives. Clean and transform data as required to deliver actionable information.
    • Manage the effort with IT in creating user reports that summarize and aggregate existing data sources.
    • Participate in creating and maintaining Tableau dashboards that visualize trends and patterns in data sets.
    • Develop ad hoc analyses of one-off studies/experiments capturing the impact of organizational initiatives, events, and digital products.
  • Collaborate with application developers, end users, vendors, and management to ensure the creation and delivery of business intelligence solutions, such as creating and maintaining Oracle Apex web applications and department-specific database enhancements.
  • In collaboration with leadership, facilitate working sessions with central and distributed end users and management to identify and document current information flows, data models, reporting systems, and user populations and coordinate with current and future initiatives impacting reporting.
  • Originate and coordinate data governance and data stewardship in line with university-wide policies and industry best practices.
  • Collaborating directly with colleagues, use reports and analyses to identify potentially problematic data, make corrections, and eliminate root causes for various complex data problems (e.g., input errors, missing values, or inaccurate data). Recommend possible solutions and communicate their organizational impact.
  • Perform fit-gap analysis comparing existing reporting solutions with a coherent long-range BI strategy and assess compliance with best practices and established standards.
  • Participate in user acceptance testing of new BI analysis and reporting systems, upgrades, enhancements, and change requests; plan, conduct, and document testing results.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, or engineering. Experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer system capabilities, business processes, and workflow.
  • Ability to understand and apply the software development lifecycle and project management techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to review business processes and translate into BI reporting and analysis solutions.
  • Experience in data analysis and root cause analysis and developing problem-solving and analytical thinking capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability with enterprise applications and database-driven applications.
  • Experience with relational and dimensional logical data modeling.
  • In-depth knowledge of and ability using MS Office, Google Suite, analytical and business intelligence programs such as OBIEE, business objects, Tableau, Matlab, SAS, R, SPSS etc.
  • Extensive background and experience with report and analysis design and application of User Interface and User Experience best practices.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

The expected pay range for this position is $135,236 to $165,000 per year.
