The Golub Capital Social Impact Lab (Lab) is an initiative within the GSB that uses digital technology and social science research to improve the effectiveness of social sector organizations. The lab is a research initiative of affiliated academics, staff, researchers, and students passionate about conducting research that guides and improves the innovation process in the social sector. We collaborate with a wide range of organizations, from large firms to smaller startups, for-profits to nonprofits, and NGOs to governments, to conduct research. Then, we apply and disseminate our insights to

achieve social impact at a large scale.

The Lab’s research falls into three main areas: (a) research to identify specific problems and associated potential technology solutions; (b) general purpose research on methods, processes, and practices that support the development of technologies such as digital education, worker training, nudges, and information provision; and (c) research on innovative approaches to subsidize and incentivize the development and scaling of technical solutions, including paying for outcomes, advance market commitments, social impact bonds, social impact venture capital, prizes, and milestone payments.

Reporting administratively to the Director, Research Operations within the Research Hub and operationally to the Lab Director and Faculty Director, the Research Manager, Golub Capital Social Impact Lab, will document, refine, and monitor process compliance to ensure transparent and replicable research; support researchers and students in defining, updating, and monitoring project plans to ensure progress towards deadlines; maintain accurate and up-to-date records on projects and personnel; manage research resources; support the Lab Director in recruiting researchers and students; disseminate lab content to general and academic audiences; organize lab events; and assume designated lab administrative responsibilities.

This position is a 2-year fixed-term role.

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop and manage research programs by conducting research activities, including outreach to varied stakeholders within the program, assigning resources, and making program improvement recommendations that impact policies and programs.
  • Create, implement, and maintain project management systems to manage complex research projects and ensure research team members are progressing toward deadlines.
  • Source, collect, and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
  • Write and/or edit complex content for proposals, research grants, peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities.
  • Gather information about ongoing research projects; contribute to and inform on strategic program/entity planning, and related funding and financial sustainability.
  • May advise students.
  • Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Applicants with a graduate degree in a related scientific field, extensive experience, and a strong passion for empirical research and data-driven decision-making are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to direct the work of others for tasks/projects requiring supervision.
  • Relevant subject matter knowledge.
  • Substantial experience with MS Office and analytical programs such as Python and R.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.

This remote role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.

The expected pay range for this position is $77,131 to $148,294 per year for remote positions. The expected pay range for this position is $111,866 to $146,847 per year for Stanford Work Location positions.
