THE TEAM

Stantec’s Western Canada Carbon Impact Team is a market leader in integrated sustainability consulting for diverse group of clients in transit and transportation, aviation, ports and marine, local government, water services, education, commercial, and community development sectors. Our work ranges from some of the largest and most complex infrastructure and building projects in BC and across Western Canada to bespoke community scale projects which contribute to defining a neighborhood. Collaboration, creativity, and innovation define our work to support climate leadership of high quality and high-performance infrastructure and building projects, from the planning phase through design, construction, and operations.

Our multidisciplinary team includes planners, engineers, architects, environmental scientists, and strategic management consultants. Our work focuses on sustainability planning for infrastructure and includes a focus on Envision certification, facilitation and stakeholder engagement, project management, a connection to other sustainability certifications such as RELi,, CEEQUAL, Greenroads, LEED, Passive House, Zero Carbon, WELL etc. and climate risk and resiliency consulting.

Your Opportunity

Do you have a passion for and experience in implementing actionable sustainability measures in infrastructure projects?

We are seeking a self-motivated and dynamic Sustainable Infrastructure Coordinator to join our growing Sustainable Infrastructure team in Western Canada. In this junior professional role, you will work directly with senior consultants to provide support on client engagement such as setting sustainability strategies and goals, and facilitating the achievement of criteria from sustainability rating systems such as Envision.

Experience with the application of the Envision rating systems to support sustainable design / development is highly desired. You will work in an interdisciplinary team environment focusing on sustainability consulting; primarily providing sustainability strategies for both new and existing project with a lens to other sustainability rating systems.

Demonstrated business acumen (business development, client relations, proposal writing, project/personnel leadership, project management, forecasting and business planning) will be an asset.

The successful candidate will have a track record of experience and understanding of sustainable development consultancy practice, including Envision, strategic planning, climate risk and resilience.

The successful candidate will provide sustainability technical support to a wide range of design projects, and personnel. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary design team to champion the strategic planning and sustainable design for projects, seeking to develop specific innovative solutions to client challenges while advocating for and advancing the state of the art of sustainability generally.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the Sustainable Infrastructure team;

  • Evaluate the feasibility of sustainability measures for specific projects (in design, construction, and/or operations) through research, analysis, collaboration with internal and external design teams and cost estimators.

  • Preparation of Feasibility Reports to assess a project’s current sustainability performance and identify opportunities to improve the sustainability of the project.

  • Collaborate with clients and project teams to develop sustainability objectives and metrics for projects.

  • Review documentation to confirm alignment with sustainable infrastructure frameworks such as Envision, Greenroads, etc.

  • Collaborate with clients and project teams to identify design strategies aimed at improving triple-bottom line performance.

  • Work with clients and project teams to facilitate an understanding of the potential impacts of climate change on the planning, design and operations of built assets and community development.

  • Facilitate the sustainability certification process (e.g. Envision) for internal and external design teams, from schematic design through to occupancy/operation.

  • Organize meetings and presentations with clients and additional project stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with sustainability-focused professionals across the organization to continuously advance, advocate for, and integrate suitability best practice.

  • Gather market intelligence to support business development.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Undergraduate degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering, Planning or Environmental Science. We will consider a broad range of undergraduate majors with a focus on Sustainability or Climate Change.

  • Commitment to climate leadership and sustainability. We are most interested in candidates that are passionate about delivering sustainable solutions for the built environment.

  • Understanding of sustainability concepts, their theoretical basis, their evolution, and their current practical applications to the long-term sustainability of communities (through related coursework, previous employment, or personal initiatives).

  • Experience or knowledge of and experience with sustainability rating and certification systems, processes, and document submission.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills.

  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills. With experience writing technical reports, reviewing technical documents, and presenting to internal teams and prospective clients.

  • Punctual, reliable, detailed oriented, task oriented, and organized.

  • Ability to successfully work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast paced, deadline-oriented and project-based environment.

  • A high level of proficiency in use of Microsoft Office programs – including comfort using Excel for complicated formulas and pivot tables, Word for report writing, and PowerPoint for visually presenting large quantities of information.

Education and Experience

  • Civil and Environmental Engineering or Planning degrees are preferred.

  • Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) accreditation is an asset.

  • Knowledge of the PIEVC protocol, ISO 31000, ISO 14025, ISO 14044.

  • Experience in facilitating sustainability charrettes/climate risks workshops and stakeholders’ engagement workshops is an asset.

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $57,900/BC Other Areas $54,600 - Lower Mainland $81,000/BC Other Areas $76,400 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
