Your Opportunity

Stantec has an immediate need for talented entry level, team focused Bridge Engineer. This position is for an individual who is looking to challenge themselves professionally on a variety of transportation projects. You will have the opportunity to learn, work on exciting and multi-faceted projects, and grow your career. This position is in the Laurel, MD office. We are looking for a Bridge Designer who excels in working in a team environment and has a passion for the work that they do. The successful candidate will join a growing team of transportation professionals and contribute to the design component of roadway and bridge projects throughout DC, Maryland and Virginia.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Most of the work will include bridge projects for departments of transportation and municipalities in DMV area.

  • Key duties include assisting with preparation of plans, CAD drafting, and construction cost estimates, specifications and design calculations for DOT and Municipal clients

  • Tasks would include but not be limited to performing site visits, bridge inspection, bridge analysis, design and geometry calculations and developing drawings

  • Position also entails preparing engineering reports and technical studies, and assisting on other projects, as needed, including participation in roadway and site civil design activities

  • Performs inspection of simple and complex bridges along with preparing the inspection reports.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Knowledge and application of bridge design codes, standards

  • Knowledge of bridge systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards

  • Basic ability in performing structural design & analysis

  • Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought

  • Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others

  • Ability to travel within the Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia area.

  • Ability to climb ladders, and work at heights using various bridge inspection access equipment.

  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and strong organization skills.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with structure emphasis. Master’s degree is preferred

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

  • 0-4 years of professional experience in the design of bridge structures

  • Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD

  • Valid driver's license

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
